Branson, MO – 4/27/2017

April 27, 2017 (Thursday)

The weather was nice, sun was out and it was warm but not hot. We decided to do something and I had a few things in mind that I hoped Michael wouldn’t mind too much. His back was still hurting so we had to take is slow and easy with him.

The Chateau on our way to Branson.
Table Rock Lake.
Part of the dam that forms Table Rock Lake.
The power generation part.
Power lines going cross country.

One of the times we had been in Missouri, we were told about the Keeter Center (at the College of the Ozarks – also known as Hard Work U) and that we should go have a meal there. We went by but then decided against it (don’t know why). Well, today we did and so glad we did. What a beautiful place. I think I loved it so much because of all the wood and copper. Just lovely. Even the ceilings in the dining room were copper. Felt like we were in a mountain lodge.

Nice place and not unreasonable.

This is the food center.
Lovely grounds.
Well built and timeless.
Nice touches everywhere you look.
Big and bold inside.
The dessert tree. We got one to go and split it later at home. We agreed, it was excellent cake.

Our server, Emily, was great and did a really good job. All the food was different and good.

Our wait person today, Emily.
They had Edie with the copper ceiling.
Fun menus.

Every student graduates debt-free, thus, hard work U.
I could have sworn I was smiling when she took this picture.
Birthday fun.

Michael wanted to try something new so he got an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. We also got some roasted brussels sprouts, which were delicious. The fried green tomatoes were a little bland, which surprised us. For entrees Michael got some meat loaf and I got a chicken sandwich. Yummy but I couldn’t eat all of mine so we got it to go.

Fried green tomatoes. Subtle flavors.
Roasted brussels sprouts with kale and parmesan cheese. Very flavorful and tasty.
Butter in applebutter.
Muffins.
Meatloaf mignon. The potatoes missed perfection, they were a little watery.
Edie’s chicken sandwich with french fries and pickled vegetables.
Branson is hilly, we are on a hill with a very pleasant view.

After our wonderful meal, we walked around and went to a museum in the lobby. It was a memorial to the Veterans and had stories of how some from Missouri died. Sad. We also drove by another Gold Star Memorial near the entrance to the campus.

Branson is crazy for veterans. I had to stick my head in the jeep and smell deeply. That canvas smell is like no other.
This display focused on Korea and Vietnam.
Veterans….Edie and I are both veterans, embarrassing mostly.
We didn’t much sail in harm’s way, those are the real heroes that need acknowledgment.

After that we went to an old time photo place (we had a discount coupon for $15.00) and got our picture taken. I let Michael pick which one he wanted since I was practically dragging him to do this. (Not his favorite thing to do especially after eating a big meal.) He turned down the Oakie, the pirate, the saloon thing, and the gangsters picture, then decided on the Union General and his lady. Turned out nice. Love it. Only took a few minutes and he didn’t complain too much (except next time he wants the picture taken before eating a huge lunch).

Good grief, what I do for my wife.

We left and went home due to Michael’s back. We decided he was not going to be able to go to the Haygoods show tonight where we got the free tickets by going to the timeshare presentation. Hate to waste a ticket but don’t want him being miserable and making himself worse by going. I left around 6:30 PM and had a wonderful time. I tried to give my ticket away to someone buying theirs, but everyone had already gotten their tickets (or done a timeshare pitch). Such an energetic and fun show. It should be against the law for one family to have so much talent. Six (or seven) brothers and one sister who did it all – sang great, played every instrument you could imagine (Catherine, the sister, even played “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on a harp that changed colors, as well as her dress that changed colors and flashed. Really cool). They also tap danced and did other fun things.

Haygoods are a very talented family, musically and athletically.
Exciting up beat entertainment.
Musicians, dancers and singers all.

Beautiful harpist.

Would highly recommend this show as it was at all times high energy and fun. They’ve been doing their show for 25 years and they’re pretty young.

Got home around 10:00 PM. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
