Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada – 4/17/2017

April 17, 2017 (Monday)

Slept pretty well. Worst of it was it was pretty hot or pretty cold. We got up to blue skies, a bit nippy but you could tell it was gonna be a nice, warm day. We left and walked to a nearby IHOP (there seems to be an abundance of IHOP’s here in Canada). We were seated and the nicest little old lady server, Diana, helped us. She told us she had been with that IHOP for 27 years. She appeared to be at least 75 years old and was only about table height. She was strong and quick. Very impressive. We had the 55+ 2x2x2. What wasn’t impressive was the cost of breakfast – $50.00! Ouch. $8.00 in taxes alone! They are quite proud of their food here in Niagara Falls, Canada.

After breakfast, we still wanted it to warm up a bit outside so we went to a casino and hung out for awhile (didn’t gamble just looked). Lovely place.

This has to be a tip of the hat to Tesla.
Walking down to the boat ride.
Looking across.
Next time we will explore the US side more.

After that we started going towards the cruise that we had bought tickets for online (discount). The online e-ticket was for Maid of the Mist (I thought), which is on the American side. We went to the Canadian side and told them about the Maid of the Mist tickets and they directed us to the American side, across the bridge. We walked across the bridge, through US Customs, across the Park and then to the Maid of the Mist (quite a walk but beautiful) only to find out we needed to be at the Canadian side and the Hornblower cruise.  (The tickets were purchased from Viatar and were $20.00 per person, normally about $30.00 per person.)

On our way to the bridge.
The US and Canada could care less who leaves, it is the coming in part that they get heavily involved.
On the bridge looking out.

View from the bridge, Canada on the right and the US on the left.
I had a fit, small though. I’ve learned if the fit is too big then she quits and the job is now mine. I don’t want the job, so the tantrum is measured.
US view.
Lots of rainbows on the US side.

You miss the horseshoe part on the US side.
It is powerful standing next to the top.

So we walked back across the bridge and back to where we basically started. I blamed Michael, he blamed me. It all worked out and we got to see both sides of the falls, which are awesome. I agree that the Canadian side is more beautiful.

On our way back to the Canada side. My fit was just slightly larger, mixed with several compliments of how well she had done up to this point.
British influence making a garden.
Down to the boat.
This boat was full and we just missed it. We were at the front of the next line and got our pick of the standing spot.
Zip liners while we wait.
The boat finished its run and is disembarking.
Finally, the right boat, on the right side.

We got to be in the very front of the boat and see the falls in all their glory. It was pretty spectacular, pretty wet but pretty spectacular. Loved it. You really get the sense of power that you don’t get up on the ground level or any of the other overlooks. We also liked that today there weren’t nearly as many people out and about as there was yesterday. With so many people, and so much noise, it just takes away a lot of the natural feeling of the falls. Feels way more commercialized. Today it felt better (at least to me).

Views from the boat.

Horseshoe falls from the front of the boat.

The ride on the boat was only about half an hour but it was wonderful. We got off wet and tired but it was great.

We disembark and want to get on the first elevator. Next load is waiting. Looks lucrative at $30 a head.

We walked back up the steep hill and went to the food court. Since we spent so much on breakfast, we didn’t want to spend that much on linner so we went to Subway and each got a sandwich for linner.

Spring flowers.
Pretty dogs.
Walking back to our place, you just have to stop and look again, it is mesmerizing.
Route to the food court.
Nice glass dome looking out over the Niagara River.
Subway was just inside the dome.
Outside the food court.

We took it back to our home and ate, then crashed. We were pretty tired. We even got in way more than 10,000 steps today (not surprised after walking back and forth over the bridge).

That has been our day. Hope yours was great!
