Latham, NY to Niagara Falls, Canada – 4/16/2017

April 16, 2017 (Sunday)

Happy Easter!

Woke up to beautiful skies. We had breakfast in the hotel (Microtel) and then watched CBS Sunday morning. After it was over, we left and got gas at a nearby Mobil gas station. The drive today was a little over 300 miles. The skies started out blue and lovely but during the drive it rained (hard) and the winds were horrible. We even saw an accident where two cars on the toll pike had bumped into each other due to the wind; and another car that lost their kayak and roof rack due to the wind.

New York is so rural, agricultural, spread out and large. Nothing like a drive across it to appreciate it anew.
We have not seen 80 in quite awhile.
We like our E-ZPass.
The actual town where the Cheesecake Factory is located.

The drive was pretty unremarkable (except rain and wind). The toll way was good but we really didn’t see anything off the interstate that we wanted to explore. We did get off near Niagara Falls to eat at a New York state Cheesecake Factory. It was very crowded (Easter Sunday) and people were so dressed up. It was lovely. Michael had his chicken and biscuits and I had a pasta dish. Yummy.

My comfort food. Chicken and Biscuits.
Edie’s exploration, a lemon, chicken and pasta dish.

We also got gas as we didn’t want to have to fill up in Canada. Going through Customs at the border was pretty easy and we didn’t have to throw away our apple or carrots as they didn’t ask.

The Buffalo skyline.
We have got to come back and explore more.
Crossing the Niagara River into Canada.
Looked not too bad and it wasn’t. Went fairly fast.
We love Canada.

We got into Niagara Falls, Ontario and found our hotel (Knights Inn). It’s pretty old and looks to be in a bad section but it’s clean, quite roomy, and affordable. Checking in was easy and the young lady at the desk was very helpful and nice.  (We used “go fast” points and cash – under $90.00 for two nights.)

Standard and odd bath.
Roomy bedroom.
Everything you need on a second floor. We always prefer to be the elephantors rather than the elephanteed.

After we got all our stuff into the room, we went for a walk to the falls – about ten minutes. Quite lovely and a straight shot to the falls. So beautiful! Very crowded.

Better views as we get closer.
The first falls.

We’re hoping the crowds will ease up tomorrow when we have our boat ride on the Maiden of the Mist.

Maiden of the Mist.

We walked around and saw the Nikola Tesla statue and then walked up to buy tickets to the elevator thing that goes to the top road. Was fun watching the falls while going up the side of the hill.

A great little park paying tribute to the great one.
Standing on an AC motor.

I really like the Falls in the backdrop.
Hell of a guy.
We speculate that in the distance is the Westinghouse facility.
Barrel my ass!
We were tired and spent the $5 to ride back up to the top.

That was our day. We’re tired and going to watch 60 Minutes and then head to bed. Hope yours was great!
