Mt Washington Discovery Center, North Conway, NH – 4/14/2017

April 14, 2017

Mike here, giving pretty woman a day off.  This adventure was mine alone.  I walked across the street to a museum and discovery center about Mount Washington, home of the worst weather in the world (at least until recently).

A permanent snow man in front of our resort.
The Discovery Center just across the street.
A photo of the weather station a few miles away on the top of Mt. Washington.

I went inside and a nice enough fellow told me if I was 18 or older that it would be two bucks.  I looked him straight in the eye and said, “I’m 17.”  He looked me back in the eye and said, “It’s still 2 bucks, you ain’t foolin’ anybody.”  I laughed and gave him his money.

It is a discovery center and did an excellent job of explaining why the weather is so bad on Mt. Washington and why the winds are so consistently high and at or near all time records.

A nice chart that explains the winds on earth.
Everything you could want to know about wind.

Lots to read and remember.

They keep their website up for the visitors. https://www.mountwashington.org/

For me, the funnest part was an air cannon.  You hit an end like a drum and it shoots a puff of air that you see the effect of on a board about ten feet away.  Too fun.

That was our day, hope yours was great.
