Eaton, New Hampshire – 4/13/2017

April 13, 2017 (Thursday)

We’ve just been lazing and grazing around here.

High valley morning fog from our dining room window.

We finished up the Mexican soup and headed out at around 11:15 AM. It was a beautiful day with sunshine. Today’s destination was just about 15 or 20 miles away to pick up a set of Johnson Bros. Friendly Village dishes. My mother-in-law (who died in 2012) had a huge collection of Friendly Village dishes that went to her daughter and some granddaughters. I’ve kinda been looking for a small set to remember her.  I found just the plates in Salinas a few months back but I wanted the bowls and everything else with a dish set. I was looking on Craigslist here in New Hampshire and saw a set. Found out it was just a few miles away so…..another miracle!  It was meant to be.

The drive was wonderful and went to some areas we hadn’t seen before that went through really cute New England villages. Loved it. The man, Ted, selling the dishes lived very close to a ski lift/ski area. When we got to the home, Ted greeted us and showed us the dishes. They were exactly what I had been looking for. They were about the same vintage as Mamaw’s and just beautiful. We got to talking to Ted and he told us some fun places we should go for a hike, and some good places to eat. Nice guy and glad he was ready to get rid of the dishes. They found a good home.

We left and drove back to North Conway.

Frozen pond.
It is that time of year, a few warm days and it will be a different world. We asked Ted how it was in the summer and he confirmed our worst fears, HUMID. Take your breath away humid.
Lovely and crisp right now.
Picturesque church.

We stopped at the Chinese food restaurant near the CVS and Shaw’s grocery store. There were always cars in their lot so we figured it must be a good place. The inside of the restaurant was lovely and reminded me of being at Shanghai Disney and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” There were water fountains and blue ceilings. Too fun. The food was not our favorite but it was good.

Edie’s vegetable Buddha.
My orange chicken, I ordered the white rice, got fried.

We got back to our home and put on a pot of Navy bean soup for dinner. We used up all the vegetables to go into the bean soup so we don’t have to throw them away when we leave on Saturday. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
