Diana’s Bath, New Hampshire – 4/11/2017

April 11, 2017 (Tuesday)

Such an absolutely beautiful day! Temperatures were into the 60’s, warm and wonderful. I had been on line to see what there was to do in the area and one of the things was called “Diana’s Bath.” Sounded interesting to me so I talked Michael into it. He wanted to stay home and finish up all the bills, blogs, and finally file our taxes.  I whined enough about how beautiful it was out, he relented and went with me.

While we were out, and before heading to Diana’s Bath, we went to CVS and then to Walmart. After that we drove the very short distance (about five miles) to Diana’s Baths.

A short drive.

Once we got there we parked and were supposed to pay $3.00 for the day parking but we just put Michael’s National Park Pass on the dashboard and we didn’t have any problems.

The walk to Diana’s Baths was almost a mile and was on snow and ice. At times it was very slippery and I refuse to fall down on the ice again so I went very slooooooow. Michael was even way out ahead of me while I carefully placed my steps and made my way. The hike was gorgeous and even with all the snow, it was warm and comfortable.

Really a great winter’s walk.
A side stream about half way to the falls. We wondered if this was the falls.  Different places have different standards for what they call a waterfall.
It is a cleansing walk, really gets the stink of civilization out of your hair. The pine trees were greatly fragrant.

When we got to Diana’s Baths, it was pretty spectacular. Lovely waterfalls coming from different directions and gorgeous.

History.
Icy, wet, slippery, so of course she heads for the edge to get the best view!
Grumpy trying to sneak up on Pretty Woman.
Pretty woman not to be snuck up upon.
On the left is the concrete base that used to house a turbine for generating electricity.
It is a beautiful waterfall. I was struck that with so much movement there were two fingers of ice/snow hanging on, lower middle left side of photo.
I went to zoom in on the far left of photo and only one finger was left!
Easy to just stare for a long time and be mesmerized by the movement and sounds.
What a great fracture and subsequent movement. I can only imagine the cold freezing drips that cause the split and gravity and water that then moved them so far apart.
Just beautiful.

Apparently, at one time there was a mill there, then some type of tourist place, and now it belongs to the National Parks Service. There are longer hiking trails but in the snow, I don’t think so. We did see some people come in on their snow shoes, which we thought was a good idea. So glad we did the hike. Michael even enjoyed himself. On the way back he told me it was the husband’s job to be the anchor and stay home and the wife’s job to get him out of the home. I think we both do our jobs very well.

At a fork, thought I’d better wait, lest she take the 9 mile path.
Pretty woman in the winter woods.

We got home and went to the on grounds restaurant called “Flatbreads.” The only things they serve (food wise) are pizzas and salads. We got a Happy Valley pizza (mushrooms, onions, cheese). Pretty yummy. Made right in front of us with the pizza ovens and the log where they chop the wood for the pizza oven. Kinda fun.

Nice wood supply for the two ovens.
The one closest to the work area was the one used most. We were hungry, we gobbled the food. Only thought about pictures after about the second burp.

We went back to our home and crashed for a bit. We are now watching TV and waiting for NCIS. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
