Montpelier, VT to N Conway, NH – 4/8/2017

April 8, 2017 (Saturday)

It snowed overnight – quite a bit. It was supposed to clear up and get warmer but it continued to snow pretty much all the way to North Conway, New Hampshire – almost 140 miles.

We started our day by getting breakfast at the hotel where we were staying. We checked out around 10:00 AM and headed a few miles to the Ben & Jerry’s processing facility. They have tours there and since we were in the area I wanted to go. Michael not so much. It was a quick and interesting tour. Didn’t realize Ben & Jerry’s had been bought out by Unilever. Ben & Jerry’s company seems to be a good and honorable place to work. At the end of the tour we got to have a “sample.” Yummy. I think it was called milk and cookies. After the tour, Michael said he didn’t mind and kinda enjoyed it.

Woke up to a trace of snow on the car. At least the pavement was black and wet.
Took the car a time to clear off.
Snowy.
About a mile off the freeway.
Sugar, milk and cream.  I am thinking 99% of what they produce.
Gift shop.
Nice
Didn’t realize how global they had gotten.
No pictures after we left the theater. They were afraid there was a Hagan Dazs spy among us.
Tour started with a 15 minute film.
We concluded our tour here.
Edie asked what the average weight gain of new employees was. Our guide said that there is a “Ben 10” that new employees struggle with. She also said that employees are given free cholesterol screenings, gym memberships and health care.

The drive was on wonderful back roads and a couple highways. Beautiful winter wonderland. Like I said before, the snow kept coming. Huge flakes at times. I was really enjoying it but worried it might stick and just wanted to get to North Conway, New Hampshire.

A fair bit of water here.
We really enjoy the seat heaters on days like today.
Interesting read.
Edie loves these ice flows.
I think that is Mt Washington on the sign.
We saw about 30 of these signs and no moose.
Country church.
We are on a scenic route.
It is still winter here.
A resort on the way.
Ski runs on the slopes.
We had to ask. Basically it means bumps in the road ahead.

We got into North Conway a couple of hours before we could check in so we drove around. This place is packed. Found out there’s a chili cookoff and some other things happening here. No parking on the main drag and had to park a couple blocks off the main drag. From there we found a great little spot to have lunch, called “Hooligans.” Michael and I both had their beef stew. Delicious. Nice place. Seemed more like a place for the locals.

Our new resort for the next week.
Nice lunch in North Conway

After lunch we drove to a nearby supermarket to get a few groceries for our stay here. (The server at Hooligans told us where to find it.) Michael wants another big batch of Mexican soup while we’re here. We also got more coffee and some fruit. The town is much bigger than we thought. It’s gonna be a fun week exploring and finding out about New Hampshire. It’s a lovely town surrounded by mountains. Mount Washington (known for its horrible weather) is a short distance away.

We finally got to check in and our “home” is really neat. For one – it’s HUGE! For another, the bedroom is upstairs and it’s HUGE! The kitchen doesn’t have an oven (again), but it’s very workable and nice. You feel like you are in a ski lodge. Too fun and very comfortable. Two bathrooms, a murphy bed and a big kitchen table to lay out our maps and figure out which routes to take. All good things.

Entrance.
Lobby towards indoor pool.
Gift shop, stairs and a very tiny elevator door.
Pretty woman checking in.
Restaurant and bar on property.
Long halls.
Pretty woman walks in and likes the room.
Murphy bed.
Downstairs bath with a jetted tub.
Apt sized fridge, two burner electric stove top, Micro that is also a convection oven.
Little living room.
Steep stairs.
Two queens upstairs.
Nice bath.
Upstairs TV and bathroom.

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
