Atlanta, GA to Huntsville, AL – 2/23/2017

February 23, 2017 (Thursday)

Woke up late and didn’t have time to have breakfast in the lobby. We stopped along the way at a nearby McDonald’s. The drive today was around 200 miles. The roads were great (some back roads and some larger highways) and the weather was good.

Out of Georgia into Alabama.
We like how google welcomes us to Alabama.
Nice rock wall.
Lots of water here.
Big river.
Pretty.

We got into Huntsville, Alabama at about 2:00 PM. We decided to do our laundry so we googled a laundromat that got really good ratings. We went there and were so disappointed. First off, we’re new to the area and are used to laundromats where you put in quarters and do your laundry. Here, part of the laundromat was quarters and part were this card you buy (for $1.00) and put money on it. We didn’t realize this and thought we had to purchase the card, so we did. We put $9.00 on it (we put in $10.00 but the $1.00 went to purchase the card) and thought that would be plenty. Then we got to the machines and they were $3.25 each. OUTRAGEOUS. By this time I was pretty mad but we were already invested and couldn’t really leave so we stuck it out but we had all kinds of problems. We finally got it all done (and my blood pressure cooled down) and were happy to leave.

Never again.

We checked into our home for the night (Knights Inn).

Our home for tonight.
Okay place.
Our room was clean and comfortable.
Standard bath.
Fridge, micro, TV.
It was an okay bed.

We are out of points at this time so we had to purchase this at the full price (something like $60.00). Michael and I were tired so we laid down and took a little nap. Glad he had set the alarm because we would have slept much longer had the alarm not gone off. We woke up and got moving as we were meeting a friend we used to work with at the pharmacy in Marina, Jennifer. She was a Pharmacy Tech there and was always fun and you never knew what was going to happen when she was around. She moved to Huntsville, Alabama about a year ago and I wanted to make sure we got by to see her and catch up with her and her daughter, Ella, since we were so close. We had been corresponding back and forth and decided to meet for dinner at 4:45 PM at a place called Hot Chicken Kitchen, Nashville style.

We got to the restaurant and Jennifer and Ella arrived just a couple of minutes later. While we were waiting the server told us how it worked and explained the ratings of the hotness. Mild was spicy and hot was very hot. They even had one with no hotness, which Michael chose for his dinner. Jennifer and I both got salad, mine with mild and hers with hot. Ella got a sandwich, not sure which level she decided on. My mild was pretty hot for me. Glad I decided not to go any hotter. It was good but not great. Very interesting concept and glad we tried it.

My dinner. A very burnt chicken breast on a slice of bread, coleslaw, cornbread dressing and collard greens. The sides were great.
Ella had a sandwich with potato salad.
Jennifer had a hot as hell salad.
Our waitress was a hoot.  Jennifer is always a hoot.
Edie’s mild (hot) salad.

We had such a great visit and got to catch up on what had been happening in their lives since they moved here a little over a year ago. Sounds like she’s liking it and she looks great and appears so happy. So glad we stopped and got to visit and see Ella. She’s really getting to be a young lady, almost in junior high. Last time we saw her she was so little.

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
