Columbia, SC to Atlanta, GA – 2/20/2017

February 20, 2017 (Monday)

Happy President’s Day!

Drive day. Long day made longer by constant stop and go traffic construction along Interstate 20. Pretty bad and slowed things way down. The trip that should have only been 3 hours turned into 5. (Only a little over 200 miles.)

We left our hotel home for the night and got a little breakfast, then headed out.

Red means a complete stop, orange is a slow down and blue is clear. Really very accurate.
Coming in from a different direction.

We made it into Atlanta at around 4 PM and checked into our hotel. Nice place near 6 Flags.

Drove by the Capitol on our way to our motel.
Pretty comfortable, really bummed about the slowness of the internet. It makes uploading pictures for the blog a real pain.
Fridge, micro, coffee bar.
Lots have these safes.
Standard bathroom.
Our home for three days. Slow internet.

We then left and went to a Greek and Italian restaurant that was recommended by the clerk at the hotel. Pretty good restaurant, both Michael and I enjoyed it.

In Austell, Georgia, a bit west of Atlanta.
Calamari appetizer.
We split this Greek salad.
Edie’s vegetable ravioli dish.
I ordered a twelve inch pizza, this is what they served. Then they brought the rest of the pizza out.

We spent most of the day (besides driving) monitoring what was going on in Prunedale. The kids kept calling to inform us of what was happening. We tried to get a generator for them as it looks like it might be well over a week before they can finally get some electricity. Good thing they’re young and able to do this. Feel bad for the elderly. One thing about Prunedale, though, they have a wonderful support system that has been showing itself on Facebook. People offering help, people asking for help, people cooking for others, people volunteering, etc. Very nice.

Anyway, that was our day. Hope yours was great!
