San Antonio, Texas – 2/13/2017

February 13, 2017 (Monday)

Overcast and cooler today when we woke up. We got ourselves moving around 10 AM and headed down to where we had the Wyndham presentation yesterday. We tried to get online (which was quite the pain in itself) to redeem and book our certificate for the week in the resort we purchased for $75.00. When we finally were able to look around in the New England area, the only things they had available were resorts where they didn’t have any availability for the $75.00, but you could upgrade for $149.00 to $699.00. NO WAY. SCAM. We were a little upset.

Anyway, Michael drove around while I went down to find Lorena. She happened to be working and was quite surprised the certificate didn’t have any availability. She said they use them and have never had to upgrade. I told her we tried several different areas and they all required a large monetary upgrade. She told me I would have to go back to the Redemption Center, and wrote down the address. I walked back upstairs and Michael was there within seconds and we drove to the Redemption Center. Once there I was able to get the $75.00 refund without a problem.

We had been told on Facebook by a blog friend (we’ve not met yet), Betty, about a really good place to eat, and has some good old San Antonio history to boot – called The Guenther House. We drove to it and was surprised that the River Walk went this far out and was right across the street. The Guenther House is in a lovely old neighborhood that was once (and still is) very high end and lovely.

It is a flour mill as well as a restaurant. This is the mill portion, we wandered around here for a bit.

We had a hard time finding the right spot to put our names down on the waiting list, but we enjoyed getting lost and going through all the lovely rooms in the museum.

This is the house with the restaurant, we went inside and discovered the museum part.

You sign up for a table in the back yard, took us a bit to find it.

Once we got on the list, we had to wait about twenty minutes before we were seated inside.

The River Walk is huge and goes well beyond the downtown part.  This is right beside the restaurant and still going.

Michael got the 1851 platter (sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and potatoes); and I got some egg and cheese tacos with fruit. Very good and fresh but a little more bland than we thought we would get in Texas. We loved their blended coffee and the atmosphere of the old house.

Great light fixtures in the dining room.
Killer desserts. We were so full from breakfast we didn’t get one.

We left and drove around the lovely neighborhood. It reminded us of the Oak Park area near Chicago where Frank Lloyd Wright built a bunch of homes, but these homes were more Victorian than modern. Just beautiful. Some were so huge! Can’t imagine having a house that large and having to clean all of it. No thank you!

Beautiful neighborhood.

This place is for sale and we asked this couple if they were going to buy it. They told us to go for it.

We left and went back “home” to work on the blog. Michael ended up going across the street to the Starbucks to work on it more. It’s really hard when you get so far behind but slowly plugging at it! That was our day. Hope yours was great!
