Cancun, Mexico – 1/29/2017

January 29, 2017 (Sunday)

We got up and had breakfast at the hotel.

Ordered a fruit plate at the hotel with some toast, great plate – papaya, watermelon, banana, orange, pineapple and cantaloupe.

We figured this was our last full day in Cancun and we needed to get out and buy the gifts to take back home. As we walked out the door of our hotel, and walked past the pool, we observed a group and noticed they were using the pool as a baptism. Too funny. I was wondering if the hotel knew they were doing that.

We walked and walked and walked. We wanted to get off the main roads and go back into the real Mexico part, which was fascinating. We walked past churches and heard the music and the sermons going on. We walked past local parks and just fun and interesting things to see. It was a rainy day but not too bad. We got all the souvenirs we needed and went back to the room.

Park on a back street.
Piles of trash is sad to see. The hotel zone is spotless.
Some kind of Sunday show with music.
Gandhi statue on a main street.
Down the way, Nelson Mandela.

Later that evening we wanted to go to dinner. I had been researching a place that looked like it was pretty close – wrong – but the walk was straight and interesting. The place was called “La Dolce Vida,” a nice little Italian place. We were able to be seated right away, even though reservations were suggested. We were brought a little appetizer and we said we didn’t order it and the waiter said it was complimentary. We like complimentary. We were also brought a little tortilla pesto pizza thing complimentary. Yummy. Food, service, and ambiance was fantastic. It was a little more expensive but for the same food quality and service in the states, it would have cost at least $200. In Cancun it was something like $50 US (with tip).  We were a little worried, however, because we wanted to use up most of our pesos for the dinner but didn’t want to go over what we had.

Sorry, best picture we got of the outside of La Dolce Vita.
Free appetizer that was delicious.
Great calamari.
A free pesto pizza kind of thing that was excellent.
Edie’s and she really enjoyed it.
Mine, another plate of spaghetti and it was delicious.
We shared a bowl of strawberries and cream. Good, but not sweet to the US standard.

We walked back at a leisurely pace and just enjoyed our last night in Cancun. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
