Cancun, Mexico – 1/28/2017

January 28, 2017 (Saturday)

We got up and had breakfast at the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel. Edie is scrambled.
Mine are over easy.

We had made arrangements to meet Aaron and Arla at Vegan Planet Restaurant. I wanted to walk to Vegan Planet, about a mile and a half walk. What was I thinking? I thought since it was January it would be cool and nice. Wrong. It was so hot and humid, by the time we got there we were both drenched in sweat. Good thing Aaron and Arla were late because that gave us a chance to dry out. Can’t even imagine being in the heat and humidity of summer. No thank you!

Ford, Chevy, they all make these little trucks.  Wish we could get them in the US.
We took our lives in our hands crossing some of the traffic circles with cars coming from many different streets, way more than 4.
Who knew Mitsubishi makes a great looking quad-cab pickup truck.
Wish I could get one in the US.
Felt like a death march but we finally made it to Vegan Planet.

Michael and I just had something to drink while waiting for Aaron and Arla. It is a really wonderful restaurant, though, and we can understand why they love it.

I had a huge water and Edie got one of their juice drinks.
They were late and we were grateful.
We split a piece of chocolate cake. It was very tasty.

After they were finished eating, we took a taxi (yea) to their condo. So lovely. Beautiful area and beautiful new and modern condo. Michael and I ended up taking a quick nap in their second bedroom.

The pool at the kids Airbnb condo.
They are in the building on the right.
Grumpy took the stairs instead of the elevator.
Their living room.
Nice dinning area.
A really nice kitchen.
Very cool fridge.
Our napping room. Nice and quiet and cool.
We had a good nap.
Guest bath.

Master bath was nice.
Nice enough view.

When we got up we all took a local bus to the hotel zone area. While we were on the bus a young man got on and started singing and playing a guitar for money. Very good singer, really enjoyed him.

On a side note – in Mexico we were surprised at the lack of homeless people and beggars. The people who appeared to be beggars were busy working and doing something to earn the money like juggling, washing windows, singing, etc. Just an observation and wish more in the USA would consider this instead of holding up a sign.

We got to the hotel zone and it is quite lovely but totally different than the feeling of downtown Cancun. Hotel zone caters to the rich tourists and the prices are much higher.

View as we head out.
Lovely quiet beaches along hotel zone.
Lovely young ladies to view.
Some nice buildings with flare.
The kids originally booked into this place and cancelled and went the Airbnb route. It is a mall converted to a hotel; very weird.
Rooms are on the top floor.
What was retail space was converted to rooms with no windows.

Michael’s feet were bothering him so we stopped to see about having his toenails cut, which he was able to do and had done very quickly.  It didn’t cost a whole lot (something like $20 US).

I am getting hooked on pedicures, well, nice women cutting my funky toenails. They consistently do a really great job.

We parted ways with Aaron and Arla, as they wanted to go to a bar and have some kid type fun, and we wanted to be old and go back to our hotel.

We walked and shopped and the kids went their own way.

We took a local bus back and the driver was nice enough to tell us where to get off to go to the hotel. Like I said, the bus system in Mexico is pretty darn good.

We got off and started walking but got totally turned around and were going the wrong way. We were also quite hungry/hangry so we stopped at a little place and got dinner. The place was called LaRes. They brought out chips and about six kinds of salsa. Very interesting and very good.

Just a place along the street that looked interesting.
Chips and salsa, and as soon as the chip bowl was empty a new bunch of chips were delivered.  The different salsas were unique and delicious.  Only one was really hot.

We got four drinks (2 beer, one sangria, and one coke) and two entrees for under $20 US (including tip). Excellent food and the food was nicely presented and interesting selection.

Tortillas.
Edie’s fajitas.
My tacos. Delicious all.

We took a taxi from the restaurant to our hotel (40 pesos), which was well worth it to us as we were pretty tired. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
