Timeshare presentation, Grand Mayan, Mexico – 1/19/2017

January 19, 2017 (Thursday)

Today was our timeshare presentation. Michael walked out the front of the condo to find Ramz, he was there. I joined him and we then all went into a cab down the street to a nearby timeshare right on the beach. It was beautiful! Chairs and cabanas on the beach, water features everywhere, ultra modern – lovely. We got all the way to where we were sitting down visiting and getting to know our “guy,” when another guy came up and said they could not give us our four tickets as it wasn’t in their budget. We left and Ramz was out waiting for us because he was afraid that might happen. He then put us in another taxi to go to the Grand Mayan Resort.

Once at the Grand Mayan we had some paperwork to fill out and then met our guy, Adrian, a real nice young man originally from Spain but he came here and married a local and stayed. We went to a really wonderful buffet style breakfast under a thatched roof (very popular in this part of Mexico). The buffet included freshly squeezed watermelon juice (which was delicious). We talked and then went back upstairs and declined his offer.

A steel version of the thatched roof that cools so effectively.

Grand Mayan.
Just a ridiculous number of walkways through this huge property.
Beautiful water ways.
Fountains and pools.
The buffet area was grand and excellent.
Demonstration unit for tours.
Cheapest offering.
All were lovely.
Private tiny pool on your patio.
Our only picture of Adrian, very likable fellow.  Their sales approach was very different.  They offered us $24,ooo as a trade in on their $48,000 product and we would no longer own our US timeshare.  We later learned that they take your timeshare and turn it in to your company and refuse to pay anything.  They said the original contract has a provision allowing you to simply turn it in without penalty or costs.
All staged nicely.

This is one of the highest end ones, it does not have a dishwasher but does come with a butler. You cook, you eat, you walk away and the butler handles everything else.

After that another person, and then another, and another got their try at us. At one point we were considering a “sampler type” packet but after sitting and waiting, and especially with all the smokers near us, we decided we were done. Didn’t make anyone happy but we were just so tired. By this time we had been doing the presentation for over 6 hours, two more if you factor in the first presentation and travel time.  They were nice enough and made sure we got our taxi home and were told to get our Xcaret tickets from Ramz, which Michael did.

We got back to our home and had dinner at a small place on 5th.

An interesting looking place on 5th Street.
I had a salad.
Edie had a delicious sandwich.
We split a basket of fries.

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
