Phoenix, AZ to San Diego, CA – 10/6/2016

October 6, 2016 (Thursday)

Today was the long drive to San Diego, over 350 miles. Weather was clear, warm and beautiful. Love the dry heat. The terrain was once again varied, from the desert cactus to nothing but huge boulders that stretch for miles, then back to cactus, and finally you can feel the ocean nearby with the greenery and lushness of the San Diego area.

We stayed in Tempe and I really admire their street signs. One on all four corners and you can actually read them.

We did stop in Yuma to get our last Cracker Barrel in as Michael had a hankering for turnip greens and cornbread. I had a BLT type sandwich, really yummy. I don’t know why but there are no Cracker Barrel’s in California, Oregon, or Washington. I just love their food and the store they have with all the fun and unusual items.

Bye.

I still wasn’t feeling all that great (flu/tetanus shot we are pretty sure). The shot area on my arm is now about the size of a hand and is hot and tender. Also, my throat is really sore.

We got into our room for the night – Best Western Seven Seas (Priceline $74.74). It’s small but has everything we need. Michael went to the laundry room to do a load. He had quite the adventure in the laundry room and was gone for quite awhile because he had to wait for people to finish before he could get a dryer. He did meet another man there who was also going to the Marine Corp graduation tomorrow. When Michael got back, we ordered room service as we were tired from the long drive. We both got salads and they were huge. The nice man delivered them within ten minutes.

We got ahold of our niece (her son is graduating tomorrow), and Michael’s brother, Paul (grandfather of graduate). They told us how to get to the base and what to expect.

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
