Rim Trail, Pinetop, AZ – 10/3/2016

October 3, 2016 (Monday)

It rained and rained all night. Woke up to mostly blue skies but lots of wind. The temperature is in the mid-60’s so we decided to try a new trail today, in the Mogollon area called The Rim Trail. Left around 11:00 AM to attempt this adventure. Our first stop was the local library to check out the internet. Lovely library and it was busy. We finally found a spot to sit but found out the internet wasn’t working. The search continues for decent internet.

Nice library, no net, but otherwise nice.

We found the trail area, parked, and took off. As soon as we got out of the car, we loved the smell of the pines in the air. We started off and the walk was different and lovely in that every few hundred yards they had information at reading level on a pole that described what you were seeing, or had some interesting fact. It was extremely windy and I kept thinking about trees falling and such but…what a way to die I guess. The walk took us to the top of the rim which had a stunning view of the valley. Michael and I were surprised at how much the top of the rim trail looked like the top of our hill in Prunedale. We walked the trail and observed ponderosa pine, manzanita, and red sandstone. The trail itself was a little over a mile but it was pretty well marked and mostly easy (a few rocks that you had to be careful in your footing).

We had been wanting to get a flu shot before we leave for China at the end of the month. We had been told it takes about two or three weeks for the shot to take effect, so we figured we had better get them soon. We took off and started looking for either Walmart or a CVS. We found the CVS but discovered I needed my insurance card, that we couldn’t use Michael’s. The pharmacy tech took all our information for tomorrow when we go back to get the shots.

After that we started looking for a coffee shop (still looking for internet) and ended up in the parking lot of the community college. It looked pretty promising for a few minutes, then disappointment again. I guess living out in the boonies and up on a beautiful mountain has its disadvantages. We’ve decided we’ll try it again tomorrow but go into the student union to see if it’s any better.

Driving on our way home we stopped for linner at Darbi’s Cafe. It’s a cute cafe and it had been recommended more than once by the resort staff. It was pretty busy but they were able to seat us quickly. Michael got a triple decker club and I got a BLT. Good food and you get a 10% discount if you show them the paper we got when we checked in.

Derbi's, she is a woman, owns it and does an excellent job.

We are now back in our home. It’s been a pretty relaxing time here that we’ve both enjoyed. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
