Dallas Tour – 9/21/2016

September 21, 2016 (Wednesday)

Mike here, gave Edie the day off.  We slept okay at the Crowne  Plaza and left without breakfast.  When we got to the area of Dealey Plaza we found street parking that we thought would work for our 45 minute tour.  We went back to the Latin infusion restaurant that was so wonderful yesterday and got a cup cake to split for breakfast.  Edie picked a carrot cake cup cake and it was so rich, half was plenty for both of us.  We went to the meeting place.

Our first stop was Pioneer Park.  This tour is nice in the sense that we can stop and walk around.  We were the only tourists.

John, our excellent tour guide explains the detail on the statues. The shape of the cowboy boot makes perfect sense when viewed in a stirrup. Pointed to make it easier to feel your way in.

John drove us past a wonderful dog park, a popular eating district and then over to Dealey Plaza.  John is very knowledgeable of the JFK assassination.

John explained that this is a very popular food district. The name comes from it's black history. Deep meaning far away and Ellum is the phonetic spelling of how blacks pronounced Elm street. The area was originally on the outskirts of town and only blacks lived here.

We enjoyed the tour, drove by the garage where the five officers were murdered and paid our respects.  We were toured out.  Left to mark another Cheesecake Factory off the list.

I think this is Edie's 25th.

We each took about half home for dinner tonight.  We hit the road, back into the east hills of Texas.  Made it back to our resort, worked on the blog and had a quiet day.  Hope yours was great.
