Gilmer, Texas – 9/18/2016

September 18, 2016 (Sunday)

The beds are comfortable and it was an interesting night.  There was (another) storm with lots of thunder and lightening.  It sounded like it was VERY CLOSE!  Also, torrential rain.  Weather and skies are so different here.

We didn’t have anything to eat because we’ve been on the road for a week, so we decided to head into the nearest town with a Walmart and decent internet.  We looked on the paperwork given to us by the check-in gal and decided Gilmer it would be, about a twenty mile drive along farm roads.  Very interesting.

We got into Gilmer and had breakfast at McDonald’s (our usual travel breakfast).  Michael tested the speed at the McDonald’s and it was the WORST we had ever seen (something like 0.05 Mbps upload speed).  After eating we headed a short ways to the Walmart to try that out (nothing).  We ended up at a Brookshire’s Market and the internet (and the grocery store) were great.  We ended up doing our shopping and a lot of the blogging in the parking lot of the store.  While Michael worked on the blog, I caught up on correspondence with family and friends so we could go to the local Post Office when we were done.  We also drove around the town of Gilmer to check it out.  It appeared to us to be an older small town with the downtown having brick or cobblestone roads.  Kinda fun.  Other parts of the town were new and modern.

We headed back to our home after doing our errands, made dinner, and watched PBS.  That was our day.  Hope yours was great!
