Shrewsbury, MO – 9/9/2016

September 9-10, 2016 (Friday and Saturday)

Friday was a honey-do and work day for us. We had gone on Groupon to get a pedicure for Michael’s toenails but it was about an hour’s drive away in Shrewsbury, Missouri. We Googled and found a laundromat near the salon and Michael dropped me off so I could do some laundry while he got his toenails ground, sanded and trimmed.

We thought the change machine at the launder-mate cheated us until we realized these were dollars.

Worked out really nice and we got to see some other cities in Missouri. Shrewsbury was a lovely town. We find it fascinating at how many brick homes, brick businesses, and brick streets are everywhere in the St. Louis area. We were a little worried about the traffic as we heard on the news that Joe Biden was going to be in town. Traffic was fine for the 60 or so miles we traveled into Shrewsbury.

After we left, we went to the Cheesecake Factory at the St. Louis Galleria to pick up Michael’s credit card he had left when we ate there after going to the St. Louis Zoo. (To be fair, we don’t believe his memory is failing because he was juggling two leftovers, a piece of cheesecake to go, the camera and the receipt.  If it happens again, we’ll have him checked out.)  Got it all but left his credit card in the folder with the original receipt. He was able to show his identification and pick it up quickly. So glad they were honest and kept it safe for him.

We left that Cheesecake Factory and drove a few miles away to Chesterfield, Missouri to another one and had linner. Michael got chicken and biscuits, and I got a BBQ chicken salad. Excellent. I’m trying out different things each time we find a Cheesecake Factory to mark off the ole bucket list.

We got home and hunkered down as there was a huge storm that was both fascinating and frightening. I had never seen lightening strike so rapidly (or close). I finally decided to close the blinds and put in ear plugs in order to get some sleep.  We were sure the place would be flooded when we got up in the morning.

Saturday – moving day. We got up and the skies were grey but no rain! We got all our stuff loaded and were out the door by 9:00 AM. The drive was a little over 300 miles to Little Rock, Arkansas (actually our hotel was in North Little Rock). Long day. The road was good all the way and the landscape varied from grain type fields to beautiful forests. We got into our hotel/home for two days (Wingate by Wyndham – Priceline – $51.50 a night) and are done for the day, except to sneak out and get some dinner.
