Tracy Arm, Alaska – 5/20/2016

May 20, 2016 (Friday)

We didn’t get to go into Tracy Arm as the canal was blocked with ice. We went instead to another glacier in the fjord. Until you see with your own eyes, pictures do not do the dramatic landscape justice. Waterfalls, steep cliffs, icebergs floating by, beautiful blue ice. It was pretty spectacular and could not have asked for better weather with sunshine. We stayed near the glacier for over an hour.

Glacier Terminus.
Lateral moraine on the left. Looks like a line of dirt.
Part of the slide show at the glacier presentation.
Accumulated lines of dirt and debris.

I get in trouble while driving and looking at the countryside and thinking about when it was buried in thousands of feet of ice. Edie says I drive poorly when thinking about glaciers.

We had breakfast in the Garden Cafe then just hung around the front of the ship near windows to watch the scenery go by. For dinner, we had reservations at β€œLa Cucina,” a small but lovely Italian specialty restaurant. Great service. After dinner we went to the show – comedian Fred Bev!

Beautiful day!
