Alaskan Waters, headed North – 5/17/2016

May 17, 2016 (Tuesday)

Slept in. Woke up to pretty big swells and the ship was rocking and rolling. Our continental breakfast (that we had ordered the night before by hanging it on the door before a certain time) arrived just a few minutes before Michael left for the glacier talk in the Stardust Lounge. (They now charge for some room service.) I met Michael at the Stardust and we listened to more talks by cruise staff – excursions and shopping.

After the talk we went to the Garden Buffet to get a little something to eat. That’s one of the main things you do on a cruise is eat! We then headed back to the Stardust for a Latitude member cocktail party. After the cocktail party I went alone to an art auction. Michael should learn to not leave me alone at any time during any type of auction. I just get so into it and I ended up buying five animated cells. (We do NOT need any more art work.) The cells are of Bugs Bunny, the Pink Panther, etc. They’re really cute and my justification was they were about the same price as the earrings I wanted – so it was a wash….Sounds good to me anyway and we’ll see if Michael will buy it. Maybe the art will appreciate in value when the kids are old and they become millionaires.

At 3:00 PM there was another sales talk. After the talk we went to our room, got a little dressed up, and headed off to Moderno for dinner. Moderno is a Brazilian restaurant where “gaucho’s” serve meat (all kinds of meat – lamp, chicken, beef, etc.) on skewers right at your table and do the carving there. They also have a really good salad bar. Great food but our favorite by far was the grilled pineapple on a skewer they brought to the table. He could have left the whole thing there without problem. Didn’t even need to slice it as we could just eat around the skewer.

After dinner we walked to the Stardust Lounge for tonight’s “Variety Show.” Pretty good talent. Really enjoyed the Four Seasons/Ritchie Valens tribute. We then went to the art galley to pay for our art work. After that it was to our room to watch movies.
