Angels Camp, California – 2/15/2016 to 2/17/2016

February 15-17, 2016

After a busy weekend of garage sales and sorting through things, it was good to get away for a couple of days. The weather could not have been better – in the 70’s. Our Canadian friends, Jan and Caron, had just recently retired,  immediately went on a road trip and had invited us to come join them in Angels Camp, California, about a three hour drive from our home.

We left Prunedale around noon and took a very leisurely drive to Angels Camp. The traffic was pretty bad leaving Prunedale but the rest of the drive was good. The rolling hills were so beautiful and looked like green velvet.

The drought is not broken, but we have had enough rain that it has a much healthier look as we head over Pacheco Pass.

Michael and I both enjoyed the drive but have decided we’re going to “upgrade” our vehicle to a more comfortable one. The Prius, as much as we love it, just beats us up too much, even on a three hour drive.

We got into Angels Camp and stopped at the local drug store to get a few things. We then walked across the parking lot and ordered some dinner from Round Table Pizza. We got to the unit around 4:00.

So good to see Jan and Caron. They both looked wonderful and seemed to be enjoying their retirement. They’re excited about an upcoming trip to France. How fun. They invited us to join them there and we were tempted but…. still so much to do to get the house ready for market in Prunedale.  We ate and drank some wine and caught up on what’s been happening. We always seem to laugh so much so that our faces hurt when we’re around them.

On Tuesday we got up and had a leisurely morning (at least Michael and I did because Jan and Caron worked hard on making a wonderful breakfast). Caron made some awesome potato pancakes and Jan did everything else. So good. After eating and digesting a little, we went for a little drive to Murphy’s. Jan and Caron said they had tried going into Murphy’s over the weekend but the whole downtown area was packed as they were having some type of special event. When we got there it was not busy at all, quite lovely in fact. We went into shops and explored little alleys. We even stopped at a local winery and did some wine tasting where they paired the wine with some really unusual cheese and crackers (like lavender infused cheese).

Jan and Caron wanted to take us out to dinner but when we went down to Angels Camp to check out the restaurant they wanted to take us, we discovered it was closed that evening. We then decided to just relax and cook at home. Before we headed back home, we stopped at the golf shop and got a couple of buckets of balls to hit. What a fun and inexpensive way to have fun and get a little exercise. For dinner Jan did a killer BBQ, some wonderful veggies, a salad, and some mushrooms (along with wine). For dessert we went with rice krispy treats and nutter butters. (Jan and Caron said they don’t have nutter butter cookies in Canada.) Was wonderful to just be able to eat, drink, and have a great time with wonderful friends that we love.

We left Wednesday morning, reluctantly, but a storm was coming in and we don’t like to drive in bad weather.

That was our little get-away. Hope you are all doing great!
