Il Covo Trattoria, Victoria, BC – 8/3/2015

August 3, 2015 (Monday)

Michael’s birthday. Happy birthday beloved husband.

Jim and Anna got over to our “home” around 9:00 AM and brought some of the most delicious paleo diet muffins. Yummy. Larry and Renee cooked everything else for breakfast. Michael, Jan, Caron and I enjoyed the fruits of everyone else’s labor. Excellent breakfast of bacon, eggs and toast. We also had coffee and orange juice. We sat around and told stories while we ate. So much fun.

After breakfast Jim and Anna left; then Jan and Caron left (they have to go to work tomorrow and wanted to do some things at home before work). Larry, Renee, Michael and I had a lazy day until around 5:30 PM. (Larry was the exception because he does his walks to get his steps in.) Around 5:50 PM, we all walked across the street to “Il Covo Restaurant” to meet Jim and Anna for dinner. Il Covo is a wonderful Italian restaurant that Jim and Anna had discovered last year. Anna, being Italian, said it was good, so it must be. They were practice eating for their up coming trip to the old country.  When we got there Jim and Anna gave Michael a birthday gift.

Jim and Anna are so classy, They brought me a birthday gift. The ribbon is the complimentary coffee packaging from their room, very creative.

We saw the menu and opted for the family style four course meal. It said it was chef’s choice so we didn’t know what we would get until it came to our table. We did request no fish (as we had heard the west coast shellfish was making people sick). For our first course we got an incredible salad with fresh tomatoes, greens, nuts, and cheese.

Great salad plates.

After that we got a spaghetti dish that left us wanting more.

The spaghetti was fresh, and so very good.

The wine, conversation and laughter all conspired against the photographer and this is the last photo taken until dessert, missed was the platter of vegetables and veal, both excellent.

Third course was a very thinly sliced veal. It was very rich. There was also a platter of roasted vegetables that came with it. The last course was a sampler type platter of desserts. The only one I knew for sure was the tiramisu.

The birthday boy's complimentary dessert, missed is the platter of samplers for everyone else.

Definitely would have liked more of the dessert because we only got like a teaspoon of each of the different types. We all left wanting more and wishing they had included a little more in each course. Excellent food but not enough for us eaters.

After dinner we all walked across the street to our “home” and had some wine and continued with the fun. It’s always a great time when friends get together and share stories and laughter.

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
