Vancouver, Washington to Port Angeles, Washington – 7/31/2015

July 31, 2015 (Friday)

We left our AirBnb home around 10:00 AM, after having a very nice visit with our hosts Robert and Rainey. They showed us more of their art and I fell in love with Rainey’s feather paintings where she paints beautiful things on a colorful feather. Loved them. Also, they were framed in custom fused glass frames that made them even prettier. Thank goodness we travel in a Prius, no room. Gorgeous! (Stopped for our usual travel breakfast at McDonald’s.)

We drove to Olympia (about 100 miles) and did a little tour of the Capitol. The building is so impressive sitting up on the hill. Once we got inside we were surprised at how modest it was. Lovely but nothing over the top. Reminded us of the Oregon Capitol with all the black and white marble.

We were also told about their passport type book that you can have stamped at all the Capitols. I’m going to get one at our next Capitol we visit. It looks very similar to the one we have for the Presidential Libraries.

Once we left Olympia we headed for Port Angeles (125 miles). The drive is so beautiful along the water and through the trees. You can’t be in a hurry when you take this road. We stopped in at Discovery Bay – the Worldmark there – to see what it was like and make note for next year on our way up to Victoria BC. We stopped in Port Angeles at the Wendy’s for dinner then checked into the Sportsman Hotel.

When we had dinner with Larry and Renee last Friday, we talked and decided to split the cost of a hotel room if I could change our reservation from one bed to two. I called and made the change after we all had dinner. I was a little worried because Michael and I snore so loud and with two beds being so close together, could be pretty miserable for everyone. When we got into the room we were so pleased because it was a two separate bedroom, one bath, place with a kitchen. Worked out quite nicely and if they travel with us to Victoria again, we’ll probably stay in the same place as it was very clean and very affordable. Small uncomfortable beds but liked having the separate sleeping quarters. ($90.00 for the night.)

Larry and Renee arrived shortly after we checked in and got into our room. We sat outside for awhile and visited with a neighbor and enjoyed the lovely weather.

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
