Lots of pictures, written statements, diorama's, and exhibits.
April 25, 2015 (Saturday)
Woke up to RAIN! Yes! California needs it so much. We were doing the happy dance when we saw it (and are hoping for much more).
Got up and got going. We went down to the breakfast room and ate. They had this really neat pancake machine working that was fun to watch. They had cereals, yogurt, cinnamon buns, muffins, fruit, an egg and cheese omelette, and lots of other things. Pretty good breakfast selection.
We left and headed for the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in Yorba Linda. The drive was around 100 miles and took about two hours.
We didn’t know until we got into Yorba Linda that it is also Richard Nixon’s birth place and where he and his wife, Pat, are buried. They charged us $8.50 per person to get in and then a docent gave us the layout if we wanted to do a self-guided tour.
They also have scheduled tours. We opted for the self-guided. They were having a wedding in a section of the Library, which would be a wonderful place to have a wedding. The Library was very impressive and covered his pretty humble beginnings all the way through, Watergate, and until his death in 1994. We learned that Pat was a smoker (but not in public) and died of lung cancer in 1993. They also had a helicopter on loan, and a space exhibit to see. Glad we got to learn a little bit more about “Tricky Dick.”
We left put into the GPS the closest In N Out Burger place, which was less than five miles away. We smelled it before we saw it. We went inside and what a zoo, loud and had to wait quite awhile before we got our order. It was worth the wait. So yummy. Glad to be back in the land of In N Out!
By this time it was around 1:30 PM and we headed out to our hotel in Thousand Oaks, about a 75 mile drive. We had forgotten how bad the traffic is in Southern California. It took us almost two hours to go only a couple miles. Horrible. We didn’t get to our hotel until after 6:00 PM. It was a pretty drive when we went along the ocean. It is lovely here with the flowers in bloom and the tropical trees.
We are now in our room for the night. Pretty expensive but comfortable. I went on line to see what restaurants were in the area of Thousand Oaks and discovered they have a Cheesecake Factory here. We’re thinking about going there to dinner so I can mark it off the list.
