Santa Fe, New Mexico – 4/19/2015
April 19, 2015 (Sunday)
Woke up to beautiful sunny skies. Didn’t do much in the morning except Michael worked on the blog from yesterday. Around 11:30 AM, we left and headed down the road to Panera Bread. Michael and I both had the 2fer – chicken cobb salad and half an Asiago steak sandwich. We also got a tea to drink and a little treat for later. As usual – excellent food. We did notice, however, that the horseradish sauce (which is usually quite mild) seemed spicier here. Probably because of being in the Southwest and people like hotter things. It was still very good.
We left and headed for the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. Somehow, while we were talking to our daughter on the blue tooth in the Prius, and the fact I dropped the GPS on the floorboard, the address got messed up and we got to see some beautiful homes and areas of Santa Fe. Michael and I both love the Southwestern style homes.
We finally got to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and went inside ($12.00 per person). Before we got into many of the galleries, we went into a room and saw the story of her life. She was really quite scandalous for her time and such a great artist. Really enjoy the brightness of some of her works. By the time we got into the last gallery, we were able to pick out her works among the other artists. We also went into the gift shop and got a little print for our little studio we AirBnB out in the Monterey area. It will look really good in the kitchen.
While we were leaving, we got to talking to a nice lady outside named Paula. She was from Winnipeg, Canada and here visiting with a bunch of ladies. We enjoyed our conversation and she encouraged us to visit New Zealand. She said she’s been there several times doing her job (officiating field hockey). We want to visit New Zealand and we’re going to have to look at it again and move it up on the bucket list.
We drove around a little and got to see the “plaza” area of town with a bunch of artists. We found a parking spot and got out and walked around for awhile. We walked past one Museum that also was a gathering for Natives displaying their works of art. Some were simply stunning (but very pricey). Oh if we were rich (and had a bigger vehicle)! We went by a lovely Catholic Church – St. Francis of Assisi. We also drove down Canyon Road and enjoyed so many sculptures, wind chimes, and beautiful (and some funny) works of art. Again, if we were rich and had a bigger vehicle.
We found the State Capitol of New Mexico, which is really hard to find because the trees cover it up. We’re planning on going there tomorrow to see what’s inside. It’s a very unique Capitol in that it’s round and stucco, not at all like the others we’ve seen. Curious to see how it looks inside.
We are now back in our room, pretty tired.
The weather changed from beautiful and sunny to rainy and gray. I am sending Michael out to get our dinner. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
