Alamosa to Durango, Colorado – 4/11/2015
Ice and snow dancing in and out of states of solid and liquid.

April 11, 2015 (Saturday)

Got up and had the complimentary breakfast at the hotel. Pretty good in that there was a nice selection – oatmeal, waffles, cereal, yogurt, omelettes, fruit, orange juice, tea, coffee. We loaded up the car afterwards and headed out around 10:00 AM.

The drive today was from Alamosa, Colorado to Durango, Colorado – about 150 miles. The weather was good.

Headed out of town we went past where we got dinner last night.

We drove up to over 10,799 feet. Beautiful mountains and lots of snow left. We stopped at an overlook and it was spectacular. You could see for miles.

We also saw a sign for Treasure Falls and pulled in. We got to talking to some people on bicycles (training for the Ironhorse event). They mentioned there was a lovely trail up to a bridge to view the waterfall better. We decided to go for it as it said it was only about a quarter mile up, and only a two hundred foot climb. (Seemed more like a mile walk and a thousand foot climb.) Worth it. So stunning. There was still so much snow built up that the waterfall was falling into. Loved seeing it and glad we made the hike.

Pagosa Springs was just a short drive away (approximately 20). We pulled into a hot springs parking lot and walked around. The water was pretty warm and the people using it seemed to be enjoying it. Looked inviting and natural. If it’s not too expensive we’ll go back and check them out. We enjoyed Pagosa Springs because it’s a nice little town, touristy but not like Branson or Gatlinburg.

A few miles out of Pagosa Springs was Chimney Rock.  We drove down the road to Chimney Rock about four miles but the road into the park was closed.  We then drove on into Durango and what a cute little town. We saw where the Albertson’s grocery store was, the downtown area, and where the Wyndham Durago was located. Great location real close to the downtown area. We stopped in the downtown and had lunch at a local brewery place called Lady Falconburgh’s. They had the record for the most beers I’ve seen offered in one establishment – and most of them were Colorado beers. Also, if you drink 100 of their beers (not sure if there is a time limit), you get a brick in your honor. Not really sure if that’s a good thing or not. Fun place, good food, nice employees.

We got into our unit and it’s really small but very comfortable. The nice lady checking us in gave us an end unit so we have an extra window, which is nice. Disappointed, however, that there is not an in unit washer/dryer. It’s free but it’s downstairs. Bummer. I guess you can’t win them all but we have so much dirty laundry from being in hotels for the last week that needs to get done.

We mustered up some energy to go back out and go to Albertson’s to get some groceries. We are now back in our home. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
