Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin – 4/1/2015
April 1, 2015 (Wednesday)
Pepper got to our home around 11:30 AM. She said the drive was just about two hours and the roads were pretty good. We visited for a little bit and then left to go have lunch. The weather was beautiful – almost 70 degrees.
We headed for the Cracker Barrel. We discovered (yesterday) that there is a Cracker Barrel but our GPS did not find it on Sunday. We discovered it on our way into Milwaukee yesterday. We ended up at the Cracker Barrel and Michael got a chicken dinner dish (just not the Sunday special). Pepper and I both got the chicken pot pie. Very good.
We left and went back to our “home” to visit and catch up more. Such a great lady. Have always enjoyed Pepper (friends for almost 40 years). We’re hoping to get to see her again if she goes out to California during the summer or fall. At around 6:00 PM, we asked Pepper if she was getting hungry again (because I was). She said yes and we said we had the $75.00 in gift certificates that we needed to use and invited her to dinner with us. We were so glad she said yes as we were afraid she was going to have to leave before it got dark. Anyway, we drove separately to “Field’s Restaurant,” in front of the Wilderness Resort. (She wanted to drive her own car because she wanted to leave right after dinner.) The restaurant is beautiful with lovely fountains and copper. Very high end. We didn’t make reservations and were glad we were able to be seated right away. We were also glad to see others in the restaurant who were dressed very casually.
The service was excellent. They kept the water glasses filled, the bread on the table, and made frequent visits to ask if we needed anything. Michael and Pepper both ordered a steak and green beans. They also got a salad with their meal. I ordered a peanut brickle torte. I had a bite of Pepper’s steak and it almost melted in my mouth. Very, very delicious. Michael really enjoyed his meat (as he hadn’t had any red meat in a very long time). I couldn’t eat all my torte so Michael helped out a little.
We said our goodbyes after dinner in the parking lot of “Field’s Restaurant,” around 7:30 PM. We went home and crashed. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
