Branson, Missouri; Spinnaker presentation – 3/10/2015

March 10, 2015 (Tuesday)

Today was the timeshare presentation we had signed up for when we checked into the Spinnaker resort. We left to be at the welcome center at 9:00 AM (about half a mile away).

Once at the welcome center, we were greeted by Stan. Stan was, at first, a really interesting guy.

Went from a pleasant and frank fellow to an aggressive and very negative type of fellow. He seemed to use us as a sounding board for all the frustrations he experiences in his chosen profession. Generally, we never talk ill of the sales force trying to make a living. Stan was the least enjoyable sales guy we met.

We ate breakfast and visited with him, which we enjoyed very much.

We told him what we do and how we do it. He then shared with us that he makes $300,000 a year as a timeshare salesperson (had two other businesses – some kind of medical lab, mobile phelobotomy and testing; as well as a restaurant). He said he used to work for Wyndham and knew a lot about Wyndham. We had told him we owned Wyndham. At some point Stan became pretty mean and ugly (maybe when he realized we weren’t going to buy). He deliberately kept us way over the time, which he shared he enjoyed doing when he didn’t like people who just came for the gifts. We had told him we weren’t going to buy and enjoyed these presentations because we wanted to learn about all the different resort systems. He told us he hates people who come knowing they aren’t going to buy. He railed against people who attend and don’t buy. He said that one of the salesmen’s wife works at the restaurant where the gift is for and he calls and tells her to mess with the food of the people he doesn’t like. He told us if he went to a presentation and didn’t buy then he would never be able to enjoy a meal at a restaurant with a certificate. As our time together came to an end – he got more and more outrageous in his assertions and claims. He said if anyone said anything he didn’t like then he sends them on their way without the promised gift.  He said the owner backs him every time and all he had to do was claim they were insulting. Anyway, Stan turned out to be one of our all time least favorite timeshare sales people.

After the presentation, we drove around Branson, went to the Walmart, and then went to the place to redeem the $50.00 food certificate – “Charley’s.” It was excellent food. I got a steak and shrimp and a drink. Michael got a small steak. We also got an appetizer. The server, a very nice man, (glad it wasn’t a woman) did a great job and it was a nice family friendly type place. If he got a call, or messed with our food, it completely escaped our notice.

We were so full after eating that we just went back to our home and tried to get comfortable. (Michael took some pills for gout. He’s so sick of chicken and keeps thinking he can occasionally eat meat without hurting himself.)

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
