At sea – 2/6/2015

FEBRUARY 6, 2015 (Friday)

We were excited last night thinking about today. We woke up early and then went back to sleep a couple of hours later. We were awakened by our wake-up call at 7:30 AM. We were to meet on the shore by 9:00 AM for our shore excursion to Katakolon (Olympia, Greece). We went up to the Garden Cafe for breakfast (we’re cheap and don’t want to eat food off the ship all the time) before the excursion.

By the time we got up and were heading to the Garden Cafe buffet, the Captain had announced over the intercom system that it wasn’t looking good for today as water was on the dock, the waves were very high, and it was just too dangerous. After we had eaten, Michael and I walked out onto the deck and could see where we were supposed to go – but we never got to. They canceled the stop and headed back out to sea. After about an hour the winds had died down, as well as the waves, but we were too far on our way. I guess we’ll just have to come back and see Olympia some other time.

Because of the cancellation, they added a bunch of other things to do today. We went down to the lobby near Guest Services and hung out with some of the Cruise Critic people. Michael and I then went to the internet cafe and he got 200 minutes, plus an additional 30 minutes for being a Latitudes member. The cost was about $100.00. We were able to speak with the kids, which was not a great connection, and really slow, but nice.

We walked to the Spinnaker Lounge for the fun, free Bingo that was added today. We got there a little early and were able to see the merengue dance class going on. Was fun to watch but looked pretty hard.

We played the free Bingo (and lost), but it was fun. After that we walked to the casino and lost $20.00. The machines were not paying out at all. We left and headed to a lounge nearby. They were giving out free drinks so I decided to drink back the $20.00. I had three of their sweet rum drinks, and Michael had one. We were going to go on to the Magnums Lounge and play charades, but Michael did not want to play. Instead we went down to our room and took a nap.

In the afternoon we went back to the Garden Cafe and had lunch. We then headed up to the Spinnaker Lounge for a free magic show. It was really fun because the magician picked me out to be his “assistant.” He was really good and I tried and tried to figure it out, but never could. Pretty amazing some of his tricks. Michael will be putting up a video when we get good internet. After the magic show, we stayed and played Bingo for pay ($49.00 for two cards – OUCH). We’ll never do that again. Way too expensive. It seemed the $49.00 lasted only about fifteen minutes and was gone.

We went back to our room and took another nap. Around 8:30 PM, we got up and went upstairs (again to the Garden Cafe) for a little dinner and ice cream. They have several complimentary restaurants here but the Garden Cafe has a great variety and the flavors are really good. We skipped on the show tonight. We have to get up early tomorrow and are really hopeful that we will be able to dock and go ashore.

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
