MSC Divina, Day 5 at Sea – 12/18/2014

December 18, 2014 (Thursday)

The time changed back an hour again so even though we felt like we slept in, the time was 8:15 AM. Michael went to the buffet upstairs and got some eggs and fresh fruit for us. Our coffee and orange juice arrived in our room around 9:00 AM. We sat out on the balcony and enjoyed it. The weather is wonderful – blue skies and warm temperatures.

It is beautiful on the ocean, we often paused to remember Laura Hillenbrand's book Unbroken and the portion of the book dealing with Mr Zamperini's time in a life raft.

We really didn’t do anything this morning. Around noon we walked up to the pool area and looked at all the items they had for sale out on the deck. We then went into the Galaxy Lounge and sat and people watched. So many people out on the deck sun tanning and playing in the pools. Was fun to watch. After awhile we headed to the Black and White Lounge for the art auction.

Having never been to an art auction before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The auctioneer was very knowledgeable and would tell stories and a little history about the artist. Michael and I really enjoyed it. I even bid on a couple of pieces (hoping, of course, to be outbid, which I was thank goodness). Some of the pieces were really famous artists and he wanted $40,000.00 – but he said he would throw in a cruise. No takers this time.

A Norman Rockwell, they wanted $30,000. It was certified but not signed.

Big bucks and a no sale this trip. But they did sell many items.

Once the auction was over, Michael and I went up to the Calumet Buffet and got a light lunch. We headed back to our room and vegged out for awhile before getting dressed for dinner. Tonight is formal night so I put on my new Ross Dress for Less dress and Michael put on slacks and a nice shirt. We got to the Black Crab Restaurant right at 5:45 PM. Everyone at our table showed up for dinner tonight. It was lobster night. I got a shrimp appetizer, chilled watermelon soup, and a steak entree. Michael got a mushroom appetizer, a salad, and a ravioli entree. Everything was good. For dessert they had a baked Alaska, which was excellent.

Mesmerizing and beautiful.

We went back to our room and changed into more comfortable clothes after dinner. Around 8:30 PM, we left to go to the Pantheon Theater. They were just finishing up bingo and when it was done we were able to snag two chairs in the front row. The show tonight was a Michael Jackson tribute called “Starwalker.” Excellent show. We both thoroughly enjoyed it.
