Tallahassee to Jacksonville, Florida – 12/4/2014

DECEMBER 4, 2014 (Thursday)

Got up and went to the lobby for breakfast. After breakfast we read and played on the computer for awhile. We hit the road at around 10:30 AM. The drive today was from Tallahassee, Florida to Jacksonville, Florida – about 180 miles (around 3 hours). The roads were mostly good (except for some back to back road construction close to Jacksonville) and a very pleasant drive.

It was a sunny and beautiful start to the journey.

We got into Jacksonville and decided to see if we could check into the hotel early (around 1:30 PM). There was a very nice lady behind the desk who said she had something and made it so. Very lovely hotel – but still a hotel. The room is large and comfortable and the bed is a sleep comfort and should be wonderful. We hung out in the room for about an hour and then left to go get a quick bite before we headed over to Cousin Kitty and Robin’s house for a visit.

Nice place, grand, and what we have found is that the nicer the place, the less you get.

We punched in the address on our GPS and figured we’d look for something to eat along the way. We ruled out the places we’d been to or knew of (sick of fast food) and opted for a little strip mall and a place called Tossgreen. Great choice. I had a salad that the employee made in front of me and it was delicious. It had apples, craisins, greens, feta, chicken, grape tomatoes and dressing. Yummy. Michael had a kind of burrito thing that he said was very good. If they’re a chain, wouldn’t mind stopping there again.

We got to Cousin Kitty’s home around 3:00 PM. We noticed some Christmas decorations are up and they’re lovely. They have long strings of light hanging from their huge tree in the front yard. Just beautiful. She said her son used a fishing pole to get them up.  (Must be quite the fisherman with a great aim.)  We got a nice visit with Cousin Kitty before Cousin Robin got home from work. (He still enjoys going to work every day.) So good to see them. It was so nice to see Cousin Robin looking and doing so much better than when we saw him last year.

Kitty and Robin said we were going to meet Cousin Rick (Kitty’s brother) at a local Outback Steakhouse at 5:30 PM. We decided to follow them there and after visiting at dinner we would just head back to our hotel home. Kitty and Robin were tired as their daughter had surgery yesterday on her back, and Rick was tired from working all day. Michael and I knew we were tired.  Great visit. Thank you guys! Such fun catching up on family.
