Alamogordo, New Mexico to Abilene, Texas – 11/25/2014

NOVEMBER 25, 2014 (Tuesday)

Long, long day. Didn’t help that we lost an hour somewhere in Texas with a time change. The drive today was from Alamogordo, New Mexico to Abilene, Texas – almost 450 miles.

We left our hotel around 9:30 AM and headed back over to Stacey’s house. When we got there, she was almost done cooking breakfast for us. She had eggs, bacon, hash browns, and rolls ready. Excellent. She’s a really good cook and enjoys cooking for others. Before we left, we were able to help her do a few little things around the house. Glad we could. We hope to see her again after we leave Colorado in April if we can. We were on the road around 11:30 AM.

We stopped a couple of times (can’t tell you where) for gas and drinks. We also stopped in Roswell, New Mexico and each got a very small blizzard from Dairy Queen. Neither Michael nor I were impressed with Roswell. Maybe we just weren’t in the right area of town but sure didn’t interest us in wanting to explore anything more.

The drive went through all sorts of landscapes – trees, rocks, desert, fields of cotton, fields of other crops. Very interesting. Lots and lots of little towns that looked like they were dying.

We got into Abilene around 8:00 PM. We stopped at an Arby’s Roast Beef Restaurant and got our dinner (to go). We then drove to our Courtyard by Marriott and got our room. Very similar to the one we were in at Mesa, Arizona a few nights ago. Very clean and nice. Glad to be out of the car.

We are at the Courtyard in Abeline. That is a touch screen for local info, pretty fun.
