Keizer, Oregon – 10/17/2014-10/22/2014

OCTOBER 17-22, 2014

We have been spending most of our time visiting with family and friends. We’ve gotten to see brother John, his daughter Teresa (our niece), Brad and Ellen, Larry and Renee, and Michael got to see his other brother Jim. Really good visits.

We also got to see an old San Quentin friend of Michael’s, Jerry. I was excited to finally meet Jerry after 25 years of hearing stories about him. He’s a former Navy Seal and underwater demolition person. Michael and Jerry had arranged to meet in Florence at the Three Rivers Casino. The drive was approximately 125 miles and took almost three hours. Spent over five hours talking and remembering. Really fun. (I also managed to do a little gambling/losing while they talked.) On the drive back we took the coastal route. It was a lot longer back to Salem but was so beautiful.

It was kind of an ugly day for our drive to Florence. We don't like dramatic weather when we are on the road.

My Uncle Art told me about Noti, Oregon. Got it's name from an Indian that was sharing his horse with a settler, each riding a ways and tying the horse for the other. At this location the Indian declared, "Him Noti". The settler stole his horse.

One hell of a guy! At 72 years young, still tough as nails. What a great visit, remembering some really challenging days we shared.

We were hoping to see a niece and her husband, Kim and Ed, in Hood River, Oregon. The rain was so bad we decided to cancel due to safety reasons. We’re hoping to get a good visit in again when we come through next time.

When we got back into Keizer and got to brother John’s home, Michael mentioned his knee was bothering him. It continued to bother him and we know we’ll be going to an urgent care when we reach Columbia Falls, Montana.
