Nice, California to Keizer, Oregon – 10/16/2014
OCTOBER 16, 2014 (Thursday)
When we woke up in the morning, we were greeted by some cute little ducks outside the patio door. When we looked out the door (and went out to take pictures), the lake and swimming pool were really close.
So lovely and quiet. Didn’t want to leave, but we had to so we left around 9:30 AM. We took Highway 20 to Interstate 5. Was a very nice drive – very curvy at times but beautiful.
We stopped in Oroville for breakfast – McDonald’s. We took our usual route up 5. Lots of big rigs out today that were liking to hog the fast lane and try to pass each other. It’s a good thing we’re retired and in no rush (and also that we don’t carry guns). The weather held up nicely for us all the way to Salem. Lake Shasta is so low it was frightening. Where they are building the new bridge, near the marina, it’s almost totally dry.
As we were coming down the grade into Ashland (and Michael was napping), I saw something I’ve never seen but always wondered about. I saw a truck that had to use the runaway ramp. The overhead light was flashing above the sign that read the ramp was “Occupied”. I think I was a little disappointed because it just looked like a big rig that was stuck in loose gravel and rocks, nothing else.
We stopped in Eugene for dinner at Outback Steakhouse. Michael got a BBQ chicken salad, I got a cobb salad, we got some mushrooms, and I got a crisp apple martini (actually two cause they were a special and were so awesome). Everything was good but the Las Vegas Outback is still our favorite.
We got into brother John’s house at 6:50 PM. He said he was going to give us ten more minutes before he sent out the search party. Good seeing him. He looks great.
That has been our day. Hope yours was great!
