Whales – Marina, California – 10/3/2014
OCTOBER 3, 2014 (Friday)
Michael has been working really hard underneath the mobile home, trying to get it more stable. I know it’s a mobile but I sure don’t like all the shaking it does, especially when the washing machine is spinning. Feels like a big earthquake. We had to go to Home Depot last night so we decided to go to the one in Seaside. It’s been so hot here in Prunedale that we thought going near the coast would feel good and cool us off a little. While we were driving down Highway 1 and I was looking at the ocean, I saw a big water spout from a whale. I told Michael and we decided to take a little detour over to Marina State Beach.
When we got to the beach, it was like a whale feeding frenzy. All sorts of birds were flying around and dive bombing, the dolphins were jumping all over the place, and the whales were plentiful. The water spouts were going off very close to shore at least five times a minute. Pretty incredible. As luck (or lack thereof) would have it, we didn’t take the camera. Bummer. Was the most incredible thing I’ve seen in a long time. One of those once in a lifetime moments.
After Michael finished today we decided to try it again. The whales were still there, along with the birds, sea otters, and dolphins. They were a little further out and not as many, but still pretty amazing. Loved it. We stayed for about an hour just snapping pictures and being in awe of mother nature.
Love it. Such a beautiful place – Monterey Bay. That has been our last couple of days. Hope yours have been great!
