Winnemucca to Stateline, Nevada – 9/14/2014

SEPTEMBER 14, 2014 (Sunday)

The drive today was from Winnemucca to South Lake Tahoe, about 300 miles. We don’t like Winnemucca. About 24 years ago Michael, Aaron and I stopped for the night in Winnemucca on our way to Salt Lake City to visit friends.  (Lexi hadn’t been born yet.)  We got into our first big fight and I left for a drive to cool off. Whenever we started to drift into a fight we’d say, “Do you really want to go down the road to Winnemucca?” Well, last night we went down the road to Winnemucca again and got into a little fight. Can’t be all sweetness and light all the time I guess. Much prefer getting along. Anyway, things are good and we didn’t go too far down the road to Winnemucca.

We checked out around 11:00 AM and went to a Subway that was pretty close. We were surprised that this particular Subway had Keurig coffee available. Michael got his flatbread sandwich that he’s been craving for the last week, and I got some cookies (good breakfast huh?).

It's a Sunday morning in Nevada, there must be a car show nearby.

We then went to the local Walmart and got a few things we needed for when we get home. We were on the road by 12:30 PM.

We drove slow because we knew we couldn’t check into the Worldmark until 4:00 PM. We got into Lake Tahoe about 3:30 PM and headed straight for our favorite South Lake Tahoe restaurant – Primo’s Italian Bistro. Love that place. Michael got chicken marsala and I got chicken picada. We also got a spinach stuffed mushroom appetizer, along with a glass of wine each. Excellent food, as usual. The noodles are the freshest I’ve had. I think I won the food war again because my chicken had the most wonderful lemon taste. Yummy.

We switched drivers, Edie for me, and stopped at a casino to use the restrooms. I insisted Edie gamble 5 dollars away. Made her max bet at a penny machine. She returned me my 5 and another 10.25.

After linner we headed up State Route 207. There is construction and we had to wait in a line for about fifteen minutes before we could go up.

While waiting for the one-way traffic I found myself wishing Wes was here so we could talk about the boulders and how they got here.

We checked in and got to the most beautiful room EVER. Gorgeous. It’s our new favorite. Views from front and back. (Still like the pool at Iron Blosam the best, but love this place for the spectacular views.) While we were checking in we were talked into an “update” on the new Worldmark/Wyndham Club Pass. We were told it’s absolutely free to use so we’ll see tomorrow when we go.

What we hate is that the yucky room last night was over $70.00, and this beautiful room was only a little over $60.00. Makes no sense to us but….that’s the way it is I guess.

We are now in our “home” for the night and we’re doing laundry and watching the 49’ers play the Chicago Bears (sad when they lost at their new stadium). That was our day. Hope yours was great!
