Iron Blosam Lodge, Utah to Winnemucca, Nevada – 9/13/2014

SEPTEMBER 13, 2014 (Saturday)

Didn’t want to leave the beautiful mountain or Utah. So lovely. Got on the road around 9:00 AM. When we were headed down the mountain we saw tons of runners and ended up having to detour in order to catch the road we needed due to the race. Fun because we got to see the runners, the people cheering on the runners, and the finish line.

We were supposed to go straight here. The run shut it down and we were on a detour.

The drive to Winnemucca, Nevada was about 375 miles. We stopped for breakfast (McDonald’s) and gas in Lake Point, Utah, and then again for a potty break somewhere in Nevada.

We also decided at the last minute to stop at the California Trail Interpretive Center, outside of Elko, Nevada. What history and great exhibits. Highly recommend it. They also have a short summary of the Donner party history.

Could not believe how much road work was going on. Just when you thought you could speed up again, they had you down to a single lane at 55 MPH. Trickery I say, trickery. This happened six or seven times.

We got into Winnemucca around 3:30 PM and headed straight for a restaurant, after getting gas again. We were both hungry. We decided on Sid’s Restaurant, near our hotel. Good food but way too much of it. We got a mushroom appetizer, Michael got a chef salad, and I got an egg salad sandwich. Good service too.

We checked into our hotel (purchased off Priceline). I asked the girl behind the counter how much it would cost to get a room and she said around $90.00 a night, with taxes included. We got the room off Priceline for $71.74 – actually $57.00 plus taxes which equaled out to $71.74. Big room with flat screen TV, small refrigerator and microwave. Sure hate paying the big bucks for hotels or motels. Would much rather pay weekly for the resorts. Oh well, one day they might have resorts along all the highways and where we are going.

We are both full and ready for sleep. We’re old and tired. That was our long day. Hope yours was great!
