SEPTEMBER 6, 2014 (Saturday)

All about the drive today. We got on the road around 11:00 AM. Our first stop was in Elko for gas ($3.70 gallon).

We didn’t stop again until Wells, Nevada. I got a parfait and a drink from McDonald’s, and Michael got something from Burger King. He wanted Subway but the employee was being lazy and ticked Michael off so he went next door to Burger King. The drive was approximately 300 miles and took about 5 hours. The first three hours were pretty typical Nevada – small brown mountains and lots of sage brush, not much else. After that it was the salt flats, Salt Lake City, and then the beautiful drive up Cottonwood Canyon to Snowbird.

I went into subway for a flat bread sandwich. The guy told me they stopped serving breakfast at 11 am. I said,"Okay." and left. Guess they had to change the grill, oh wait, it's a subway.

Before heading up to Snowbird, we wanted to go to a local Costco to get some head phones so we can each watch what we wanted on Netflix. We talked and couldn’t remember ever seeing any head phones there, so we switched and went to a Big Lots.  When Lexi was with us we had bought some for her and we knew they had them. We discovered we liked the store as it had just about everything you could want or need. We ended up getting some of our food and the headphones there. Just a block or so down the road was a really nice supermarket called Harmons. We got the rest of what we needed for a few days there. We were asked if we wanted them to load the groceries into the car. They have a covered area (for rain/snow). Really nice store.

We always love visiting Salt Lake City. The Wasatch Mountains add to the beauty and provides the setting that justifies the city.

We got up to the resort and it is busy. Hardly any parking spaces and trying to unload took awhile. The checking in process was easy and I was excited because we were told we were on the sixth floor. Last year we were on the ground floor and loved it, so being up higher was exciting. We got up to our room and were disappointed in that it was totally different from what we were expecting it to be. We really thought that all the studios were like the one from last year with the murphy bed, sofa, etc. This unit has no murphy bed, just the sleeper sofa. The unit itself is quite large and lovely – fireplace, granite counter tops in kitchen and bathroom, dining table, chairs. It also has a beautiful wooden ceiling. Very lovely but not as modern as last year’s. We’re hopeful the bed will be comfortable. We’ll let you know tomorrow. I remember last year we complained about the murphy bed and ended up loving it. I’m hopeful we’ll end up loving the sleeper sofa and the unit. The view is incredible.

I went on line and tried to find pictures of last year’s unit to compare to this year, as Michael was insistent that last year was much larger. We had just started the blog and we had pictures of the lobby and the front sign, but nothing from the interior. Bummer. We also thought they supplied robes to go to the pool. That was another resort in Utah. Things are getting jumbled in our minds. Good thing we have the blog to help, and hopefully we’ll do a better job of pictures and such.

We ate our dinner – cobb salad and bread, and our dessert – half a Snickers bar each. After dinner we both put on our head phones and watched our programs – me “The Killing,” and Michael “Game of Thrones.” That was our day. Hope yours was great!
