Prunedale, California to Dayton, Nevada – 9/3/2014
SEPTEMBER 3, 2014 (Wednesday)
We left early for us, around 9:00 AM. Our first stop was at the local McDonald’s for coffee. Michael got his usual egg white McMuffin and I got a parfait. Coffee was good. We left early so we could have a visit with friends of Michael’s from his prison days – John and Marilyn.
Our drive today is to Dayton, Nevada – about a 300 mile drive (or 5-6 hours). We went East Bay and saw three wrecks along the way. The first one was bad where a large white van looked like it plowed into the back of a red Ford car. The Ford car looked pretty new but it was missing the back part. Hope no one was in the back seat. The second wreck was causing all the delay we were experiencing but had been cleared up by the time we went through. The third one was a little further up the road near Sacramento.
We got to John and Marilyn’s lovely home near Sacramento around 12:30 PM and got in a quick visit with them. We also had the pleasure of meeting Marilyn’s father, Scott. He had moved out from Springfield, Missouri to be with his daughter. What a fun and nice man. After a few minutes of talking, they then had us follow them to a local Mexican restaurant for lunch. What great food and fun service. We sat around and laughed and shared and caught up on many years. What adventures they’ve had – hiking the Appalachian trail, kayaking the mighty Mississippi a few days before Katrina, bicycling across the United States. Sounds like work to me but fun to listen to. Good to see them and meet Marilyn’s sweet father. They want to go to Australia and New Zealand and want to know when we go so maybe we can plan something together. That would be so great!
We left later than we had wanted but we were having too much fun. The drive from the restaurant to Dayton, Nevada was quite beautiful. We did notice, however, some of the trees looked like the bark beetle had gotten to them and they were dying. Hope it doesn’t spread any further. The view of Lake Tahoe from Highway 50 is so spectacular. We stopped and just took in the smell and the view. So very breathtaking.
We were not hungry but wanted to eat a little something to tide us over. We stopped at a local restaurant in Dayton. Michael got a Cobb salad and I got a bowl of ice cream. Okay, I know not the best dinner but I did have some of the egg and some of the chicken off Michael’s salad. I just wasn’t hungry enough to eat anything else.
We got to Pat and Sharon’s (my sister and brother-in-law) place around 6:30 PM. So good to see them. They are so busy but we caught them between trips. We visited and laughed and had a great visit until they crashed and burned around 11:00 PM. Michael and I followed around 11:30 PM.
That was our day. Hope yours was great!
