Aromas Day, Aromas, California – 8/24/2014

AUGUST 24, 2014 (Sunday)

Rough night. When Aaron and Alex got in last night, he brought our grandpuppies. Without their daddy being home, they felt free to bark at will – and did so. When Aaron finally got home, he had some doggie messes to clean up. They may be our grandpuppies but we don’t clean up their accidents unless we have to.

When Aaron came home, he brought back his good friend Michelle. Michelle is like a daughter to us and lived with us for a few months, right before we went on the road.  Aaron and Michelle have been best friends since high school.  She now lives near San Luis Obispo, going to school and working.  They don’t get to see each other very often.  Michelle slept on the mat on the floor and Aaron slept on the floor.  Alex, being the guest, slept on the couch.  Very full house.

When everyone was up we got them breakfast and then they went on their way. Aaron had asked us if we could dog sit for the day while he and Alex went hiking. We said no problem as our granddogs are usually really good and well behaved. Aaron and Alex dropped Michelle off at her parent’s house down the road so she could get back down to San Luis Obispo and to work tonight. Aaron and Alex were on the road to Big Sur by 10:30 AM (later than they had hoped but they needed some sleep in order to be safe).

Micheal and I headed out about noon to go to Aromas Day. (Before going there, though, we had to stop for gas at the local Valero – $3.78 gallon.)  It was a little big scarey because it said on the computer screen we had 0 miles before we needed gas.

The car's computer said we had zero miles before needing gas. We have a 10 gallon tank, so, 2 gallon reserve or about 100 miles.

Aromas Day has grown over the years into a great big deal. Back in the day it was just a bunch of garage sales and not a lot of people. Now there are old cars, classic cars, food booths, vendor booths, a carnival like area, a parade, and many other things.  Also, there are a lot more people.  Was fun to get to see and experience it again. Love the small town experience.  We even spent $2.00 and got a few garage sale items (half off their original low price). Weather was beautiful and it was such a nice day to be out and about.

When we left and were heading home, we saw an accident that had just happened near the Aromas Day festivities. Felt so bad for the people involved. Both Michael and I stated we hoped a white truck that sped by us very fast and unsafe hadn’t been the cause of the accident. As we drove a little further we saw the fire department, ambulance, and CHP on their way.

When we got home, I crashed. I was so tired and my feet hurt from all the walking. I went into the bedroom and slept for several hours. When I got up, Michael had dinner mostly done and just waiting on Aaron and Alex to show up from their hike. Aaron has already called to say he’s hungry and wants something waiting when they get here.
