Alert Bay, Cormorant Island, BC, Canada – 8/7/2014

AUGUST 7, 2014 (Thursday)

Got up and went down to the cafe for their breakfast buffet – eggs, sausage, oatmeal, cereal, french toast, orange juice, coffee. Met a nice man and his friend who were also going to the island.

Left our room around 10:00 AM to check out the area near the ferry. Did a little shopping – got a t-shirt and some birthday gifts. Did a lot of walking around and looking. Fun. Saw some eagles. We were told it’s because there are so many fish this year. Good to hear.

We were able to get the pictures we wanted of the whale/octopus, and then just walked around and enjoyed the island.

Saw lots and lots of eagles. So beautiful. Love it. We got back to the ferry terminal about an hour early but still weren’t able to get on due to a large amount of people on the island to honor a chief that had died. A bunch of them crowded in and we were left (along with a many others) to wait for the next ferry at around 6:00 PM. We talked and visited with some of the people there and we all made a pact not to be so nice and let others ahead of us on this ferry. What was bad, however, were so many cars were waiting and it looked like they might have to wait two or three ferries before they got them all off the island.

I asked Edie if she would get a rock for me that I liked. She immediately agreed, until I pointed out this one in the water.

I was happy to see the ferry. I was most unhappy when we missed getting on by about 4 people. Many crowded in front of us. No more mr nice guy.

We got back to our hotel around 7:15 PM and went straight to the pub to have dinner. Michael ordered the three piece ling cod with Cesar salad, and I got a small Cesar salad and a piece of mud pie. Very good and not too expensive. Service was very slow but we’re retired so it’s all good.

We are both exhausted and looking forward to a good night’s sleep. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
