Aberdeen, Washington to Victoria, BC, Canada – 8/2/2014
AUGUST 2, 2014 (Saturday)
Got up and going around 7:00 AM. We stopped at a local 7-11 for coffee and breakfast. We were surprised at how poor the community looked and felt.
We weren’t sure how long it would take on the two lane roads through the mountains to Port Angeles. We also wanted to have enough time to explore Forks (where they filmed Twilight series). We made it to Forks in a little over two hours, and to Port Angeles by 11:30 PM.
The drive from Aberdeen to Port Angeles was beautiful. We were able to go along the ocean, inland a little ways, through fog, sun, rain forests, flowers, a huge and beautiful lake (Crescent Lake), and just a nice drive. We also got to explore Forks briefly. We stopped and got some water at a store there. Really not much to Forks.
Our ferry didn’t leave until around 12:30 PM, so we just walked across the street to the little stores and checked them out. Quite fun. Bought some happy birthday salt water taffy there. Michael said it was too sweet but I liked it. The ferry ride was lovely. We were outside for awhile, hoping to catch a glimpse of a whale, but we got too cold and went inside. Once inside both Michael and I almost fell asleep, the ride was so smooth. Getting through customs was quick and painless. We’re hopeful going the other way will be just as fast.
First stop – Finest at Sea. We were very surprised at how much they have increased their prices since last year. Progress? Don’t think so. Also, they don’t double fry the french fries anymore. The fish was just as wonderful and they’ve added some cole slaw but not worth the increase in prices. I guess we’ll have to find a new favorite fish place.
After we drove down the street and found a parking spot, we ate our linner, and then went back to the Worldmark to check in. The Worldmark is beautiful and the room is very modern and fun. This unit tonight was purchased on bonus time and it’s a less desirable location. For a less desirable location, it’s quite lovely and has a great view of the harbor. Looking forward to seeing the unit we have that isn’t in a less desirable location (points) for the following three nights.
Once we settled in and rested for a few minutes, we walked down to the inner harbor and checked it out. Not a very long walk but Michael’s gout is trying to act up and we decided to take a water taxi back. How fun they are. Love it. Love Victoria! Love Canada! Love this!
That was our day. Hope yours was great!
