South Lake Tahoe, California – 7/14/2014

JULY 14, 2014 (Monday)

Lazy morning and then we got moving. We drove to South Lake Tahoe, but did it the long way around the lake through Truckee, Tahoe City, etc. Lovely drive.

Topped off before leaving. Only two squares so only about 120 miles worth of gas.

Truckee river is so pretty, we hope to raft it this trip.

My favorite part of the road on the California side where there is a steep drop off on both sides.

The beauty is grand, no wonder there are so many people here.

Traffic was horrible and there was a lot of road work. Took us almost two hours to get into Tahoe. Once there we headed for our favorite Italian restaurant, Primo’s Italian Bistro. So good. Michael had chicken cacciatore on linguine and I got a steak dish that was cooked in tomato sauce and served on a bed of pasta. Both were excellent.

Little place, little strip mall, but so good and delicious.

We had sold our timeshare, The Stardust at South Lake Tahoe on Ebay last March. (We had purchased it in 2006 on Ebay for $1.00, we got $1.30 for it, cha ching!) Because the buyer wanted the timeshare in her sole proprietorship name, Stardust has simply been refusing, via the unaffiliated realty service company that just happens to be on their property and endorsed by them, to process the Grant Deed transfer. They are exercising a right not found in their bylaws or California real estate law. I suspect they are banking on the expense of bringing a suit being prohibitive compared to the gain of forcing the sale of the timeshare. We are retired, so pro per, or per se, is an option. They offered to take back our week if we paid 2 years maintenance fees in advance. They are acting like the companies they are afraid we sold it too. After three calls to the reality service company (we felt like stalkers), we finally got a call back and were told she couldn’t meet with us and that they couldn’t do anything without the approval of Stardust. We didn’t get our paperwork, supposedly it is going out in today’s mail.

We’re very frustrated We went to the Stardust/Americana headquarters and met with Jennifer (Assistant General Manager for the HOA) and was told that the reality service company was it’s own independent company.

We made sure we had the latest copies and reviewed the bylaws and she clearly pointed to the place in the bylaws that was silent on approving transfers. Absolutely, totally, completely silent, as written by their attorney who was very confident that the silence was permissive. We will be taking them to court in some form or fashion, and will let you know what happens. So frustrating when you finally get a buyer for a timeshare and they start doing their slime things. This is the dark side of timeshare ownership. We feel like we joined a prison gang, blood in, blood out!

Anyway, we left and headed back to our “home” through Carson City. While driving we decided to try to get hold of my sister and brother-in-law to see if they were home from their family reunion. They were and we made arrangements to go there and get in a short visit. We managed to get a visit and take them out to dinner at a lovely little sports bar near their home. They had a restaurants.com coupon so we didn’t have to pay an arm and a leg for dinner. Was nice getting to see them and visit for awhile.
