Reno, Nevada – 7/13/2014
JULY 13, 2014 (Sunday)
Slept and slept. Felt good. We were awakened around 9:00 AM by the housekeeper wanting to straighten up our room. She apologized for waking us and said she’d be back. We didn’t even get moving until around noon or so. When we did leave the room, we walked down about a block to a local brewery called Silver Peak.
It has really good food and some nice beer (according to Michael who had a glass and enjoyed it). We split some nachos and a cobb salad.
We then walked around the corner to see what was playing at the movie theater. While we were near the movie theater, we saw some crazy kids jumping off the bridge into the Truckee River. It wasn’t very deep there and we were worried they would break something. They seemed to know where to jump and were having a good time.
Michael had forgotten his hat in the car so he walked back around on the shady side and I walked along the river. We met up in front of the church near the resort.
Near the river, they had some street artists who were showing their wares, which was fun to see. There was nothing going on at Wingfield Park when I walked by, but the river was so crowded as the temperature was nearly 100 degrees.
Michael had been communicating with a friend of our son’s who we had met in Santa Clara before and enjoyed. He and his wife had moved to Reno and we had made plans to get together for dinner. We were originally going to meet at their new home they recently had built and then go out to dinner. They decided they wanted to cook and we would just get to visit and enjoy getting to know them. We left around 5:30 PM because we wanted to stop at a store and get some wine and a dessert.
We arrived at Rahm and Glenda’s beautiful home around 6:30 PM. We were introduced to their dogs – Molly and Heidi. They are sisters and so cute. Excellent watch dogs. We got a nice visit in before, during and after a delicious dinner they had prepared. Rahm kindly gave us the cook’s tour of their place.
After dinner Rahm drove us around the subdivision. Just lovely with lots of options of things to do – golf, swim, club house. Very similar to resorts. We had dessert out on their back porch. Beautiful setting and so comfortable.
We hated to go but Rahm had to get up early and leave to go back to Santa Clara. We left around 9:00 PM. I had a hankering to gamble so we went into the parking garage at the Silver Legacy and looked for a place to park so we could go gamble. The parking garage was so crowded, we decided just to go home. The streets of Reno did not look busy at all but we were glad to see all the cars in the garage.
That was our day. Hope yours was great!
