Prunedale, California to Las Vegas, Nevada 5/9/2014

MAY 9, 2014 (Friday)

Woke up and got on the road pretty early (for us) – 8:30 AM. We first stopped at McDonald’s for breakfast (Michael got his usual egg white delight and coffee; I got a yogurt parfait and coffee). The drive today was a little over 500 miles to Las Vegas. It took about 8 hours but we stopped for gas, lunch (Panda Express) and a yogurt (somewhere in the desert).

We started off in cold and wet weather. We were a little afraid it was going to stay that way. By the time we got down to King City, the weather was clearing.

A low pressure system had passed through and gave us just a little rain, we were grateful, it is so nice having water at the house.

As we headed south the clouds lifted and the sky began to clear.

As good as he was I couldn't help think we should have named the highway after a soldier hero instead of James Dean.

When we went over Highway 46, heading to Bakersfield, we laughed that we thought we heard the oil wells booing us as we went by in our Prius plug-in. We’re loving the car and it seems to have much more room than our old one.

I thought I heard one hissing as we drove by.

Our first gas up was $30.73, so much better than my old truck. Half as much and twice as far!

The drive looked totally different as we haven’t ever driven into Las Vegas from the west, (just out of Las Vegas to the west). It was a long drive but it went fast as Michael and I talked, we listened to our new Satellite radio (3 month free trial), and just enjoyed the scenery. Michael also got a little nap in and woke up refreshed and ready to drive.

We were doing 78 and almost getting ran over. I don't like the slow lane because the trucks beat it up so bad and leave it rough. They have done something here, it is excellent and smooth. I think they have figured out how to stop the tandem axles from destroying the road.

We got into the Grandview right at 5:00 PM. Check-in was quick. When we went to get our “parking pass,” we told them we had been here last month and did the presentation. We were given building 6 – Honeysuckle. When we got into our room, it is even nicer than last month’s room (and that one was lovely). We’re in for the night, I think, as we’re pretty tired.

Gonna love our week here and so looking forward to seeing Gary Puckett tomorrow night. I have only gotten to see him three or four times over the years and have always enjoyed him. He was my favorite when I was a young woman (a hundred years ago). Michael is being such a good sport about going. I think he’s going to make sure I don’t do anything embarrassing.

That was our day. Hope yours was great!
