Memphis, Tennessee to Muldrow, Oklahoma 3/18/2014

March 18, 2014 (Tuesday)

Lovely hotel, soft bed, white noise. Was nice but we so prefer our timeshares with kitchens and lots more room.

We got up and left around 10:30 AM. We headed for either a Subway or Panera Bread. We found the Panera Bread first and had a lunch. We are loving their food and the freshness of it  (prices aren’t bad either).  We had wanted to go by the hotel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot, and it is now a museum on civil rights, but we ran out of time and are putting it on our “to do” list for when we return to the Memphis area.

The drive today was about 300 miles and took about 5 hours. We had told Uncle Claude and Aunt Gail that we would be there at 4:00 PM, but we didn’t arrive until closer to 5:00 PM. We stopped once for gas in Palestine, Arkansas ($3.30 a gallon), for a bathroom and drink stop, and once in Muldrow, Oklahoma to buy masks and hand sanitizer before we went to Uncle Claude and Aunt Gail’s. Michael is still having a head cold and Lexi woke up with something so we are trying to be cautious and make sure we don’t cause them any more problems. Aunt Gail is having some medical issues. We also decided to get a room near them so they don’t have to worry about us and just make sure they take care of themselves and get rest.

When we did get to Uncle Claude and Aunt Gail’s house, they had dinner ready. It was really good – BBQ, beans, potato salad, bread. He had also made his famous chocolate pecan pie which we all love. Everything was very tasty but we did not want the trouble. We got a nice visit in with them, saw they looked good and seemed to be doing well, got some hugs (with masks) in, Uncle Claude played his harmonicas for us, visited, laughed and had a good time until about 8:30 PM. We are hopeful to see them again when we come back through.

We got to our hotel room and are just hanging out. We miss the hotel from last night as this one is clean and all, but it’s not a nicer hotel. Cost about the same and that’s what is so frustrating. For the next week or so we’ll be in hotels until we get to Las Vegas. That was our day. Hope yours was great.
