Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee to Memphis, Tennessee 3/17/2014
MARCH 17, 2014 (Monday)
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Woke up around 8:30 AM. Missed saying goodbye to Bobby, but got a quick visit in with Kathy and the dogs. So fun. Such Southern hospitality at its finest!
Today we had a mission to find a collector’s bottle of Jack Daniels for Mario (a friend from my old work at the pharmacy). Another friend, Joan, had requested we pick it up while we were in Tennessee. We thought we were going to go to the distillery again, in Lynchburg, but we all collectively decided against it and opted to look at liquor stores. It took us five liquor stores before we gave up and just got something we thought he could live with. I told him he would get what he would get and would not have a fit. We’ll see.
The drive from Columbia/Mt. Pleasant to Memphis was about 185 miles and took about four hours. We took back roads and it was fun to see the old cabins and towns. Nice roads and nice drive. Once we got into Memphis, we checked into our hotel and then continued on our mission and even went into Mississippi looking for the bottles. No luck. We went back into Memphis, Tennessee and Michael said he thought he recognized the street. Come to find out his grandmother’s home was nearby so he probably went on that street when he was little (his mom and dad were born and raised in the Memphis area). We tried to find the house and street but…could not. Maybe next time.
We finally found a large selection of Jack Daniels bottles at Busters Liquors. We got two bottles and hope for the best. If not, we’ll drink them. After that we went across the street to a Mexican restaurant and had dinner. Quite good and lots of food.
We are now back in our hotel and looking forward to a lazy evening. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
