Gatlinburg Town Square, Tennessee 3/9/2014
MARCH 9, 2014 (Sunday)
Woke up to another sunny and beautiful day. We lazed around most of the morning, watching CBS Sunday morning, reading, drinking tea, and just generally not doing anything.
Around 1:30 PM, we walked down the hill (very close, about 4-5 blocks) to explore. We walked down one side and back the other. We stopped in stores to check them out, looked at some of the activities to do (and there are many), and had lunch at the nearby Shoney’s. They have an all you can eat salad bar/breakfast buffet for $9.99. After lunch we walked down to one of the free moonshine tasting places. We tasted four small glasses. The first one was horrible, but it got better after that. The last one was a mix of moonshine, apple pie spice packet and apple cider. Quite good.
We walked more after that, shopping more, and then went down to Ole Smoky Mountain Moonshine. They had a group playing on the stage that were really good. They were all dressed up in their overalls and boots. Too fun. We listened to them until they went on break, then we walked into the tasting area and waited for a spot to taste. Could not believe how many samples they give out. I think we tasted fifteen different types of moonshine – regular, tequila flavored, blueberry, pineapple, peach, strawberry, grape, lemon, punch, apple pie, peanut butter and jelly, cherries in moonshine, and others (I guess by that time we were too drunk to remember). Fun and could not believe how much they gave you. You do have to show your ID no matter how old you are. It’s a law in Tennessee we were told.
After that we walked around more, stopped at a pizza place to get Lexi some dinner, stopped at a little store to get a snack for later tonight, and then walked back “home.”
We are now in our lovely little home for the evening, waiting for our date with PBS. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
