FEBRUARY 17, 2014 (Monday)
Woke up to blue skies. Still cold but at least the skies are beautiful.
We got up later than we wanted. We wanted to get to the NBC Studios around 10:30 AM so we could ask if we were on their list for tonight’s Jimmy Fallon show. We didn’t even get out of bed until 10:00 AM. We were still very tired and sore from yesterday. When we did drag ourselves out of bed, we went to a bagel place about a block away called Pick a Bagel. It was a really good place. They also have a build your own salad that they make, mix and serve.
After breakfast, we headed to the NBC Store to ask about Jimmy Fallon. Looks like there’s no way we have tickets. Bummer. I think we got messed up in the conversion from Late Night to the Tonight Show.
After our disappointment with Jimmy Fallon, we wanted to do something so we decided to walk to the Empire State Building. Nice long walk, but it didn’t look that far on the map. We got a little ways and saw what we thought was the Empire State Building but it turned out to be the Chrysler Building. What a beautiful building. We also got to see Grand Central Station. If we hadn’t gotten lost in going to the Chrysler Building, we wouldn’t have seen Grand Central Station – so it worked out fine. Plus, Michael and I think the Chrysler building is much prettier than the Empire State building.
After that we walked (in the right direction) to the Empire State Building. We got to walk on Park Avenue, Madison Avenue, and then into the Empire State Building. Another beautiful building. We decided not to pay the $50.00 to go to the top. We might do that later but not sure. We were so tired that we decided to take a taxi back to Rockefeller Center. It was so worth the $8.00 (plus tip) ride. Just that short rest helped us all so much.
Once we got back to Rockefeller Center, there was a large crowd near the entrance and a TMZ camera guy. We asked who they were waiting on and a nice lady said it was Wayne Brady. I love Wayne Brady and we even got his picture as he was getting into his SUV. Only in New York.
We got back to our “home” and decided to rest and maybe go out to a comedy club but we weren’t sure. Felt good to get our shoes off and just relax for awhile.. Around 7:30 PM, we left to go to dinner. Our original plan was to go to a local comedy club, but Lexi saw some reviews and it didn’t sound good so we decided against it. Lexi wanted to go to Chevy’s. She’s been wanting to eat at Chevy’s for awhile so we decided we were feeling well enough to walk the 12 blocks or so to the closest Chevy’s for dinner. We got there a little after 8:00 PM and were seated immediately. We ordered a pitcher of blended strawberry margaritas to start.
Lexi got a taco dish, I got a fajita salad, and Michael got a burrito. We all really enjoyed our meal. While we were eating, Lexi looked at her phone and was disappointed to see that one of her country Western singers, Cole Swindell, was also in New York City and had just posted his picture in front of the David Letterman sign. He posted, “Walking to dinner tonight…I bet nobody would believe me if I told them I was playing here tomorrow night! Y’all tune in! Can’t wait to walk in a store and buy my album tomorrow! Big day. Love y’all! — with Reanna Marie Todd.
Apparently he’s going to be on David Letterman tomorrow night. We told Lexi we’d find him on the way back – and we did. In fact, we found him almost in the same spot where he had taken his first picture because he was coming back from dinner. Lexi was so excited. Just made her year. It was funny, though, because she thought I was messing with her when I called out, “Cole,” and he turned around. She had the biggest grin on her face and was so happy. She got three or four pictures with him. He was so nice. He also mentioned that his album comes out tomorrow. Only in New York City. Too fun.
We are now back in our “home”. I am stuffed, as I am sure Lexi and Michael are. I know Lexi had a good day, I hope Michael did,, and I know I did because I love seeing new things. That was our day. Hope yours was great!
