Brookgreen Gardens (Cont.), South Carolina 1/26/2014
JANUARY 26, 2014 (Sunday)
Woke up to sunshine and it looks like it’s going to be a nice day! Got moving and left our “home” around 11:00 AM. We headed to Big Lots. We wanted to get some ponchos and an umbrella, just in case, for New York City. Once we were done there, we went to the rec center. We worked out for a little bit (very little bit) and then went into the pool. The indoors pool was the perfect temperature. Michael and I had no problem walking right into it. Did a few laps and hit the hot tub. Got into a nice conversation with two recently retired ladies from Virginia.
We went back home and made a salad for lunch. It was one of those great Costco salads that had everything included. Really good. Once we ate and got on the computers for a little bit, we headed out to check out a cupcake place that won cupcake wars last year. It’s called Coccadotts. It had some amazing looking cupcakes. Michael got an OMG (chocolate and more chocolate), and I got a carrot cake. Michael liked his so much he didn’t want to share (I could tell it in his eyes and the way he covered the cupcake protectively when asked), and mine was really good.
The reason I wanted to go to Coccadotts was because we had heard from Jan and Caron – our blog friends we met on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada last August. They were supposed to get into Myrtle Beach yesterday but had weather delays and quite the adventure getting here. Anyway, they got here safely and we’re going to their resort for dinner on Tuesday. We’re taking dessert (cupcakes). We took cupcakes last time we saw them (from Oh La La). Going to be our tradition when we see them I think. I wanted to make sure the cupcakes were as pretty and good as they looked on line, and they are.
We left Coccadotts and went back to Brookgreen Gardens. There was so much we had missed when we were there on Tuesday, and so much more to see that we didn’t get to (maybe next time we’re here). I think it’s a real good thing that the tickets are good for six days because you really need that long to see everything. We spent about an hour there and were overwhelmed with how many sculptures in gardens, in hallways, in buildings, in ponds, everywhere. Amazing place. Also, we saw the cutest squirrels there that had faces that looked like raccoons.
We left Brookgreen Gardens and Michael wanted to take a little side trip through Murrells Inlet. What a cute little place. We saw an amazing mailbox that we just had to take pictures of. Really neat. We plan on going back to Murrells Inlet and maybe have lunch or dinner there. We heard it’s the place to go for fish.
As we headed back towards Highway 17, the Food Lion was right there. I wanted some tarter sauce to go with the fish we’re having tonight for dinner (Costco), so we stopped and got a few things we needed. We are now back home and very tired. Busy day.
That was our day. Hope yours was great!
